HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst has picked out his best bets and quaddie selections for the six-race card at Gosford on Wednesday. The track is rated a Soft 7, the rail is in the true position for the entire course, and the first race of the afternoon is set to run at 2:35pm AEDT.
Gosford Best Bet – Almighty Rising
It is a pretty slim old afternoon at Gosford with a few very average races, but there looks to be a silver lining in the final race of the day. Almighty Rising, a three-year-old gelding by Flying Artie, has only had three career starts, winning once, placing second once and running last in Group 3 company on debut at Caulfield when he faded quickly after leading. The Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained three-year-old did enough to lead all the way at Canterbury over 1100m back in June on his second start, before he was run down late by the impressive Larkspur Run over 1250m in July. Almighty Rising comes into this fresh off one trial at Rosehill where he finished alongside the winner, Allusionist. Tommy Berry will do the riding from barrier three and we expect to see similar tactics engaged here, which will see him lead all of the way over the 1100m around this tight-turning track. Good luck catching him.
Next Best at Gosford – Forzanini
Peter & Paul Snowden will saddle up Forzanini in the third leg of the quaddie, with our man Tommy Berry in the saddle here too. The three-year-old filly by Pride Of Dubai won impressively on the Kenso track back in June when coming from a long way back, before she ran into a smart one in Sky Command at her next start. Earlier in her career she finished third to Paulele, who is now a proven Group performer, so that form reads well. Forzanini has had the benefit of two trials leading into this, including one where she defeated the market danger Twitch by half-a-length in October, before running a very narrow second in a 1080m trial on November 11. From barrier seven in this 1100m Fillies & Mares Benchmark 68, Berry will have plenty of options and should be able to give her every chance of winning.
Best Value at Gosford – Colour De Roy
Colour De Roy is an SP punter’s dream in the fourth race as he goes around as an $11 chance. This three-year-old colt was backed as if unbeatable at Hawkesbury on October 26 at his most recent start when firming from $6.50 to $3.60, but he was only able to manage third after leading most of the way. The Mark Newnham-trained son of Capitalist has only won one from seven, but it did come over the 1000m course, which he is dealt with here, so the each-way odds look appealing if he can get a soft run from barrier three. Tom Sherry rides front runners well and has a 22% win strike-rate when riding horses trained by Newnham, so we are happy to be with him here. If Colour De Roy is well backed like last time, we are even more happy to play.
