HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst has previewed the seven-race card at Gosford on Wednesday and brings you his best bet on the program, as well as his top picks in both the Gosford Guineas and Belle of the Turf Stakes and his free quaddie numbers. The track is rated a Soft 7, and the rail is in the true position for the entire course. Race 1 is due to jump at 12:00pm AEDT.
Gosford Guineas Best Bet
James Cummings and Rachel King combine in the Gosford Guineas with impressive last-start Randwick winner, Bacchanalia. The gelded son of Exceed And Excel has won three of his eight starts and is now chasing three-straight victories, after having recorded dominant wins at his past two. While it will be the horse’s first look at Gosford, he has won twice at Canterbury which is a similar style of track, so he should handle the tight turns. Bacchanalia will be sent out as the race favourite, but he will have to overcome barrier eight, however there does look to be enough pace for him to be able to slot in and then prove too good for his rivals once again.
Belle Of The Turf Stakes Best Bet
It was hard not to be impressed by what Chris Waller’s mare Brookspire did at Randwick on December 11, so we have to be with the favourite in the Group 3 feature. The four-year-old Hinchinbrook mare has won four from 10 and now looks ready to win again up to 1600m third-up. Drawn barrier two under Hugh Bowman, this mare will get a lovely run in behind the speed, before she is likely to take over on the turn and put this field away. In her six defeats, she has never been beaten too far, with horses like Harmony Rose, Miraville, Love Tap and Expat some of the horses to have finished in front of her, so she is no slouch. Brookspire was beaten by Expat first-up this time in, but she meets the top weight 1kg better at the weights, which we think should be enough to turn the result around.
Gosford’s Best Bet Of The Day
Annabel Neasham had a day to remember a fortnight ago at Wyong, and while we don’t expect her to land another feature race double, we do think she can go home a winner. Neasham and King combine in the second leg of the quaddie with Never Second, a four-year-old Zoustar mare. Never Second didn’t quite live up to her name first-up this preparation, running second at Wyong in an 1100m scamper, before going to Kembla Grange on a Heavy 10 track and proving too good over 1200m, to win by 1.3 lengths. She stays at the 1200m on Wednesday and should get all of the favours behind the other fancied runner, Kibosh. From barrier six, King can land her mount in a prominent spot, stalk the leader and then produce her late. She can go back-to-back.
