First Race 12pm AEST

Eight races will be run and won at The Entertainment Grounds in Gosford this Thursday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie numbers for the program. The meeting is set to be conducted on a Heavy 10 track, while the rail is out 3m from the 1100m to the winning post and then true for the remainder of the course. The first race of the afternoon is scheduled to start at 12pm AEST sharp.

Best Bet at Gosford – Wolf Queen

We might be waiting a little while, but we hope it will be worth it. In the last race of the day, Bjorn Baker and Heavelon Van Der Hoven combine with the impressive Wolf Queen, who is looking to return where she left off. The three-year-old filly by Tivaci ran second on debut at Mudgee, but she then put it all together with strong back-to-back wins at this track over 1000m and 1200m respectively. On the back of one public trial, Baker has opted to take her straight to the races and send her around in a Benchmark 64 over 1100m where she should be hard to beat. Drawn well in barrier five, Van Der Hoven will search for pole position on the filly and she should be too slick.

Next Best at Gosford – Valentina Express

We were taken by the parade of Valentina Express prior to her debut on ANZAC Day at Randwick, and she did run up to her looks with a game second behind Egyptian Tycoon. The Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained three-year-old was a good trial winner prior to that at Warwick Farm, while she was not beaten far in her very first outing, running less than six-tenths of a length away in third in a Canterbury 900m trial. The filly by Warrior’s Reward has drawn nicely in barrier two to get the run of the race under Brenton Avdulla, and we expect her to take some beating.

Next Best

Race 6 – Silk #6 Valentina Express (2)

3yo Filly | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: Brenton Avdulla (56.5kg)

Next Best Again at Gosford – Royal Ballet

In the penultimate, Kris Lees and Jason Collett combine with Royal Ballet, who ran a game third behind Baltic Coast and African Daisy on Scone Cup Day. The three-year-old filly was ridden on the speed over 1600m and fought on gamely, going down by just over half a length to two promising gallopers. The daughter of Fastnet Rock does step out considerably in distance from the mile to 2100m on Thursday, but she is in an astute stable that has a good record when training horses over staying trips, so we expect a forward showing here. Having drawn a touch wide in barrier 12, Collett will likely ride this galloper handy to the speed, giving them something to run down.

Next Best Again

Race 7 – Silk #10 Royal Ballet (15)

3yo Filly | T: Kris Lees | J: Jason Collett (55.5kg)

$3.10 with Ladbrokes
