As the rain continues to fall all across NSW, we head to Gosford Race Club for an eight-race card on Thursday afternoon. We are already on a Heavy 8 track, so with more rain incoming, we expect we’ll stay in that Heavy range come the first race at 1:15pm. The rail sits in the true position for the entire circuit, and testing conditions mean every horse that handles the going should get their chance.
Best Bet: Fun Sunday
Fun Sunday looks to break her maiden status on Thursday in race two, and this looks the day for us. She’s been competitive in Listed company behind A Lot More Love on October 15, beaten by 5.1 lengths, although she was forced to sit wide on a hot tempo and never got a chance to show her best. Go back two starts when she was only 1.2 lengths off Orzala at Newcastle and that rates well in this maiden company. Both Fun Sunday and race rival Pierossa come from that form-line, but our girl seems to strip fitter and meets her opponent 0.5kg better at the weights. Dylan Gibbons jumps on this filly by Sebring, and this looks a great setup for her to get her first career win for Brad Widdup and connections.

Next Best: Midori Fuji
We’re looking for a race-to-race double for Dylan Gibbon at Gosford with our next best bet, Midori Fuji. This very progressive Kermadec gelding looks to go back-to-back for the Bjorn Baker stable after winning in impressive fashion on October 16 at Nowra by 6.5 lengths. It was a very heavy track that day and Midori Fuji seems to relish in those conditions, which is exactly what we think he will get on Thursday. While he didn’t beat much at Nowra, if he can hold that form going up to BM64 company, he looks the one to catch here. Gibbons will look to go forward and sit top half of the field before letting down to clear out on his rivals. If he can pinch a break in this race, Midori Fuji take a power of beating.

Best Value: Emphatic Bel
Originally trained by Glenn Stevenson in Tasmania, Emphatic Bel makes her NSW racing debut for Denim Wynen in race seven on Thursday afternoon, and we’re happy to be with this Belardo filly at each-way odds with online bookmakers. She’s had just one official trial since arriving in the state, but it showed she’s going well enough to make some noise and hopefully break her maiden here at Gosford. Her trial was at this track on October 13 and she was pushed out well to win it by 0.8 lengths. It was the first time she had seen a wet track, and it was good enough to say she will handle conditions come race-day. She was a beaten favourite in all three runs in Tasmania with a starting-price profile of $2.30, $2.80, and $2.60, but we’re finally getting a very backable price and she looks over the odds. Patrick Scorse takes the reins, as he did in the barrier trial, and while they elected to lead in the trial, we suspect they will go back from the wide gate. With plenty of speed on here, she’ll get her chance to swoop over the top late.
