HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst brings you his best bets, value bet and quaddie numbers for Gosford’s eight-race meeting on New Year’s Eve. The track is rated a Soft 6, while the rail is in the true position for the entire course, the same position it was in for Wednesday’s Gosford Guineas meeting. The first of eight is set to jump at 1:25pm AEDT.
Gosford’s Best Bet – Nasturtium
Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou looked to have unveiled another smart galloper here, with four-year-old entire Nasturtium looking to remain undefeated. The son of Snitzel was a dominant 5.5-length winner on debut at Hawkesbury when leading all of the way, so it is hard for us to go past him again here. James Innes Jr partnered the promising horse on debut, and he has once again been handed the keys to the Ferrari for Friday’s assignment. The win on debut came over 1100m, so the stable have opted to keep him at the same trip again, which is another benefit. Nasturtium will have to lug an extra kilogram in this, with the Handicapper giving him 60kg after that impressive debut win. The $1.60 on offer looks about right.
Next Best Bet – Flying Witness
Another short one goes around later on in the program, with Annabel Neasham’s Flying Witness looking to win her first race. The three-year-old filly has been in the minor money in her past two starts at Randwick-Kensington and Canterbury respectively, while her form last campaign saw her contest Group racing. That form looks good enough to be able to measure up to a Maiden Plate on a Friday at Gosford, while the rise in trip to 1600m is only going to suit. Brodie Loy does the riding from barrier nine, so he should be able to get the filly into a handy spot in this big field and hopefully find clear air as they come into the straight. She is a class above these.
Best Value At Gosford – Underboss
Kim Waugh and Serg Lisnyy combine in the penultimate race with a ball of consistency, Underboss. The five-year-old gelding has had 17 starts for two wins and seven minor placings, and looks to have come back well after a nice trial over 1000m at Wyong on December 1st. The son of Animal Kingdom had finished in the first two in all four of his runs last campaign, before pulling up quickly in the last run of his campaign at Taree on a bottomless Heavy 10. He should relish the drier track on Friday, while he tends to race reasonably well when fresh, with one minor placing and two fourth-placed efforts from his three first-up runs. Drawn gate two, Underboss will get every chance to cause an upset in the seventh.
