It was a relatively slow $250,000 Furphy Country Mile Series Final (1600m) at Flemington, but that suited winning jockey Harry Coffey just fine.

Coffey guided five-year-old mare Glassey Miss (at generous odds of $16 for Ladbrokes for trainer Symon Wilde) to a half-length triumph over Grahame Begg’s Gracias Amigo in what was judged a “slow” time of 1:37.96.

Coffey was comfortable with the pace of the mile race, before making his move from the outside on the straight.

“We weren’t going at a solid clip, but I was just sitting in behind them doing no work,” he told Racing.com.

“She’s very versatile which makes her quite easy to ride.

“Because she’s quite versatile if a slight run comes she can ping through it and I was able to do that.”

It didn’t all go to plan for the talented 26-year-old hoop.

“I actually took off after the leader a little bit earlier than I would’ve liked,” he said.

“I would’ve liked to have hidden her away a bit longer, but I was just going that well I had to get into the race.

“And the rest is history – she was just too good and I’m absolutely chuffed.”
