What Geelong Races
Where Geelong Racecourse – 99 Breakwater Rd, Breakwater VIC 3219
When Wednesday, April 13, 2022
First Race 1pm AEST

Geelong will host midweek racing on Wednesday with an eight-race card on a Good 4 surface. The two-year-olds will commence the meeting racing over 1200m, while it is a tricky affair in the last for punters to stew over as the contenders take to 2400m, with a few of these having a lead-up race before the Warrnambool May Carnival commences in just three weeks time. HorseBetting brings you the best bets on offer at Australia’s best bookmakers.

This three-year-old gelding from the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace stable can make it two in a row at Geelong we think. After winning a jumpout at Ararat, he broke his maiden here after getting to his rivals with 100m to go. He started favourite on that occasion and it doesn’t look like the extra 100m is going to be an issue here. Barrier four is a plus in the 16 horse field and we think he can position up around fifth on the outside, similar to what he did on debut. Sachem will be hard to beat after also winning at Geelong last start, while Knock Knock has been pretty consistent to date and will be thereabouts again you would think.

NEXT BEST: HARD QUESTIONS

Hard Questions gets a gun draw (two) and we think he may be able to position up behind the leader in this event and get the last crack at them. He has had almost three months off between runs after his close second at Ararat where he made up some good ground late. In his two races prior, he scored a win at Terang over 1400m and a fourth at Hamilton where you could see he was still learning. He drops back from 1600m to 1500m which isn’t a real concern as we know he runs the mile and the reduced distance is a result of being fresh. A good run here should see him straight back to 1600m at his next start. It’s going to be a competitive affair with four of his seven rivals having won in their last four starts. Ben & JD Hayes have a French import engaged and he must be respected despite not racing since November.

BEST VALUE: BARCLAY’S BANK

This horse competes against two first starters from quality stables in this event. Those two rivals are sure to attract market support which may leave Barclay’s Bank showing overs. He was beaten a nose last time at Bairnsdale over 1200m and before that was sixth at Echuca after attracting support. We won’t get huge odds here, but there is likely to be value with punters looking at all different avenues to get out in the last. His close second was on a similar rated track to this one so a firm ground won’t be an issue.
