The Geelong Racecourse is scheduled to host an eight-race card on Thursday afternoon and Horsebetting.com.au present our best bets, top odds and free quaddie picks. The track has come up a Good 4, with the rail out 4m the entire circuit, for the meeting getting underway at 1:30pm AEDT.
Geelong Best Bet – Denirra
Our best bet of the day comes up early in the meeting when the Luke Oliver-trained Denirra steps out over 1418m. The four-year-old Denman mare finished second behind Queen Of Sass at Wangaratta on December 23, with that horse going around as favourite later on in the card. She gains the services of Damian Lane for the first time which is a massive addition and from barrier 10, we expect to see Frosty to take the Brown mare forward from the tricky draw and have her settled outside the leader. With three minor placings from her last three starts, she is more than due a win and under a well-rated steer from Lane should prove too hard to run down.
Next Best Bet at Geelong – Vosmaeri
The Archie Alexander-trained Vosmaeri was beaten 2.5 lengths by Emerging when finishing second over the Geelong 2400m on December 26 and is set to return to the track and distance on Thursday. The five-year-old Ocean Park mare managed to lead the field up before being rounded up inside the final furlong. She did well to stick on for second on that occasion and you would think she only needs to replicate that performance to be taking out a maiden event like this. With Declan Bates retaining the ride, we expect to see Bates take up the lead from barrier eight and in a race where Vosmaeri should gain an uncontested lead, she should prove too hard to run down.
Best Value Bet at Geelong – Grable
In the third leg of the quaddie, we’ll hoping the Jamie Edwards-trained Grable can make it two wins from her past three starts. She was trapped three wide with no cover close to the speed at Wangaratta last time out where she faded to finish eight, but her win at Warrnambool two starts back suggests she is a genuine winning chance here. The win at the ‘Bool came when settling in the one-one and from barrier three, Jordan Childs will look to give her a similar run in transit. The Dream Ahead mare will only need even luck in the home straight to be a winning chance and if she gets that, then Grable may just prove too hard to hold out.
