Geelong Best Bet – High Done
The Paul & Tracey Templeton-trained High Done was a dominant winner in similar company at Stony Creek on January 4 and looks well-placed to do the same at Geelong. The six-year-old bay gelding, out of High Chaparral, does his best racing when leading the field up and following the booking of Sheridan Clarke, it looks to be the way to success once again. Following Clarke’s 3kg claim he’ll go around with 61.5kg on his back, 1kg less than what he had to carry at Stony Creek last time out. With two wins from his past three races, High Done is racing with the confidence needed to take out a race like this. He should gain an uncontested lead and we anticipate he’ll be sending us home a winner on Sunday. We are more than happy to take the $2.70 on offer from Neds.
Next Best Bet at Geelong – All She Wrote
The Matt Laurie-trained All She Wrote returns from a 20-week spell following a desperately unlucky run on debut chasing home the smart Xtra Gear over the Geelong 1100m. The three-year-old Tivaci filly returns to the track and distance and with better luck this time around, she looks well-placed to bring up a maiden win here at start two. She got caught in the ruck last time out prior to the final 100m, but once the filly saw clear air, she hit the line with great intent to show she has some above average ability. From barrier 11, Ethan Brown will need to have All She Wrote settled towards to the rear of the field, but if she produces a similar turn of foot on Sunday as she did on debut, she looks one of the nicer bets at Geelong.
Best Value Bet at Geelong – Bottom Line
In the third leg of the quaddie, we are happy to side with the Phillip Stokes-trained Bottom Line who was luckless when first-up at Mornington on December 29. The four-year-old son of Unencumbered found plenty of traffic throughout the home straight that day, before hitting the line strongly once out in clear air. He draws barrier 14 on Sunday, so Ben Allen will have no other choice but to get back in the field and have Bottom Line swing wide on the turn. If that is the case, he will be in clear air when building through the gears and we expect to see him benefit from that and prove too hard to hold out.
