Racing heads down the highway on Sunday afternoon to Geelong where an eight-race program is scheduled on Father’s Day. We are racing on a Heavy 8 for the meeting, with the rail returning to the true position the entire circuit. Despite the conditions, we expect the rail to be the place to be early on as the inside 4m of the track has not been used since the middle of July.
The day of racing gets underway at 12:45pm AEST.
Best Bet at Geelong – Rocket Boy
With a bit of luck Mr Brightside salutes in the Feehan Stakes at Moonee Valley on Saturday and the same trainer/silks combination can get the job done on Sunday with Rocket Boy. The three-year-old gelding just missed out on his maiden win at start two when launching late on the Pakenham synthetic to be beaten by the barest of margins at just his second start. That effort came when having the blinkers on for the first time and was a run that screamed he will appreciate anything over the mile next start. The Pierro gelding gets just that stepping up to the 1700m and from barrier one, drawn to gain the perfect run in transit on the leaders heels. Look for Sirius Princess to set this race up perfectly for Rocket Boy to pull off the rail on the home turn and ultimately prove too good for this lot. The $3 on offer with some online betting sites looks a steal early on.

Next Best at Geelong – Without Envy
The Danny O’Brien-trained Without Envy ran into Thron Bone on debut at Flemington on July 2 when beaten under a length in her second-placed effort. She has had a short nine-week spell in the paddock and returns in what looks to be maiden event right in her grasp. The three-year-old filly showed a nice turn of foot on debut when settling midfield and outside of multiple city winner Thron Bone had the rest covered pretty comfortably. From barrier seven on Sunday, look for Jye McNeil, who sticks on board, to have this Pariah filly settled midfield with cover. If she replicates her effort from Flemington, we expect this is to be a bit of an easy kill for Without Envy who looks to be a smart conveyance.

Best Value at Geelong – Kapalua Sunset
In the opening leg of the quaddie, we are anticipating one-time VRC Oaks favourite from her three-year-old season, Kapalua Sunset can return with an overdue win. The four-year-old mare has not tasted success since her seven-length maiden romp at Kyneton back in September 2021 but looks well-placed by the Danny O’Brien stable to resume with a win. Her best efforts have come when running on rain-affected ground which she gets here and considering she failed throughout the autumn on firmer decks, we’re hoping that is the tonic for success. She will be giving this lot a start, but if Kapalua Sunset is anywhere near what she is capable of, then the $11 with online bookmakers online bookmakers looks a great play.
