Racing heads to Geelong Racecourse on Friday afternoon for a competitive nine-race card on a track rated a Soft 6. With a top of 18 degrees forecast, we might see an upgrade to a Soft 5 at some point in the card, but it would take a near-miracle for us to be racing on anything firmer. The rail comes out 5m from the 1700m-800m, while it will come out 8m the remainder, suggesting it may be advantageous to be up on speed early on the card. The first race is set to get underway at 11:45am AEST.
Best Bet at Geelong – Twin Perfection
Twin Perfection from the Phillip Stokes barn has been nothing short of consistent this time in with a win and three minor placings from four starts and looks hard to beat on Friday. The four-year-old gelding tends to make his own luck up on speed hardly runs a poor race, especially for apprentice jockey Gary Lo. The young apprentice claims 1.5kg and from barrier three, the pair look to add to their already impressive record of 4: 1-2-1 when they combine. From the handy draw, we expect to see this son of Nicconi bounce to the lead and dictate terms throughout. With just 59kg on his back following the claim, he looks well-weighted and well-placed to bring up a third career win at start nine.

Next Best at Geelong – Jabbawockeez
The Ben & JD Hayes-trained Jabbawockeez returned in fine style with a smart victory at the Pakenham 1400m on May 25 and despite rising in 2kg, looks set to go on with the job on Friday. The four-year-old gelded son of Redwood managed to put over a length on the City-class duo of King Neptune and Hellfire in Class 1 company on a Soft 7 and this BM64 over 1750m looks ideal for him second-up. He gave his rivals a big start on a night where it was not easy to make up ground at Pakenham, but with a strong finish, aided by a rails run, he had the race sewn up a long way out. He will need to go to a slightly new level, but with a strong turn of foot and a genuinely run 1750m affair expected, Jabbawockeez should be able to finish over the top of his rivals in fine style.

Best Value at Geelong – California Longbow
California Longbow wasn’t only nosed out late at the Geelong 2400m two starts back and with a return to the track and trip on Friday, we’re expecting him to go one better. The seven-year-old gelding has been racing consistently without winning in recent times and is rock hard fit heading into this BM64. A firmer track will only aid his chances, but considering he has three wins and three minor placings on Soft ground, we expect he will handle the conditions in front of him with great aplomb. From barrier four, he should gain the run of the race in the one-one under Daniel Stackhouse and in what looks to be a true staying test, we’re hopeful California Longbow can outstay his rivals.
