Ameena (Tassort) has been withdrawn from this weekend’s Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick, with trainers Anthony and Sam Freedman opting to target the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude (1400m) on Caulfield Cup Day instead.

The filly secured a victory in the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) in August but couldn’t replicate that performance in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on September 21, where she finished seventh.

“It was a funny race,” Sam Freedman commented.

“They just didn’t go any faster tempo, and we felt that she just keeps drawing badly.

“She is probably capable of holding a spot. We’ve seen her lead up in her early races.”

Horse racing bookmakers have Ameena quoted as a 14 winning chance to win the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) on November 16.
