Doomben is the host of metropolitan racing in Queensland this Saturday, with nine races to be run and won. Drying conditions around Brisbane should see them racing on a Good 4 surface. The rail goes out 2m for the entire circumference, so we could see a slight advantage to those closest the inside and handy to the speed.
Doomben betting tips for Saturday, May 2
Best Bet: Race 6 – Seat Of Power to win @ $3.70 with Sportsbet
Seat Of Power will have to overcome the outside alley on Saturday, but he should be able to get the cart across with Sabkhat. The lightly raced 5yo gelding by Sea The Stars will be suited by the mile first up on a dry Doomben track. Taylor Marshall should find the 1-1 outside race favourite Shalwa and pull away late to prove too strong. His four wins have come on a good track, which he will get on Saturday.
Next Best: Race 8 – Racecourse Road to win @ $3.30 with Sportsbet
The Kelly Schweida-trained gelding maps perfectly for this assignment. Jimmy Orman should get the gun run in the box seat behind likely leaders All Important and Hekansplit. The 4yo by Show A Heart is shooting for three on the bounce and may well continue adding to his picket fence. His record at 1200m (7:3-0-0) is very handy and he looks ready for the step up in grade here.
Best Value: Race 4 – Hail Manhattan each way @ $9 with Sportsbet
The speed in this race is HOT! There are five leading chances, with odds-on favourite Stylish Saga drawn on the rails and facing an enormous amount of pressure in this 1050m sprint. Hail Manhattan from barrier two will have no worries stalking the speed. Nathan Day will be able to push the button in the straight and finish strongly over the top. This horse’s only loss at the Sunshine Coast last prep has seen six subsequent winners come out of the race, which is a big plus. He will only improve from his dominant first-up win.
