The Donnacha O’Brien trained filly Asean stormed home in Sunday’s Listed Curragh Stakes (1000m) at Curragh giving sire Ten Sovereigns his first black type winner.
A lovely progressive type, Asean settled off the pace early and when asked to sprint by jockey Gavin Ryan 200 meters from home she obliged with a terrific turn of foot and swamped her rivals, beating Alabama by half a length.
Ten Sovereigns is a dual Group One-winning son of No Nay Never who shuttled to Valachi Downs for one season in 2020 serving 43 mares.
One of the resulting progeny, two-year-old Take The Crown, looks to be a promising prospect for trainer Shaun Phelan having won both his recent trials.
