Fawkner Park, once the favourite for the Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m), will not take part in the race, as confirmed by connections.
Managing owner Nathan Bennett of Bennett Racing told Racing.com that the horse would not run in next week’s Group 1 event, with spring plans to be made following veterinary checks on Friday.
Fawkner Park’s odds had lengthened with horse racing bookmakers after he missed the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m).
Co-trainer Annabel Neasham, speaking after the horse galloped at Caulfield on Tuesday, explained:
“He had a slight muscle issue – not even a tear – but he slightly pulled a muscle in his pec.
“He’s always a horse you have to keep on top of.”
