Winter has well and truly set in across Victoria, as Echuca Racing Club will present racing on a Heavy 10 surface this Thursday afternoon. The first of nine races will start at 12:30pm AEST, while the last race will set off just after 4:30pm. The quaddie legs start at race six, which is scheduled for 3pm.
ECHUCA BEST BET: IDONT’GETIT
Peter Chow and Joe Bowditch combine with this gelding who is still learning his craft. He ran a lot better last time at Stawell over 1300m on a Good 4 surface, but he wasn’t disgraced on a slow surface on debut when fifth either. In both of his starts he has settled midfield and towards the back half of the field, so we feel he is a horse that likes to settle and get one crack at them down the straight. Chow has decided that local tracks aren’t the best for Idont’getit yet and has chosen Echuca, which is more than five hours away from home, so the stable must be confident. Bowditch rode him last time when third and has chosen the stick with him.

NEXT BEST AT ECHUCA: BANGERANG REDBACK
In this maiden race, we feel this horse gets his chance. He was beaten a nostril here on May 14 and with luck he should be going close in this race. He knows this track very well and he did put in two solid jumpout runs in preparation for this campaign. He stormed home last start and with another few strides would have won. Dropping back to 1100m is interesting, but we will trust the trainer’s decision on this one. Obviously we have to respect the first-starter from the Hayes yard, and Kylie Vella’s horse has placed four of five starts so will be among the favourites. Shambo with Jamie Kah on board will also attract support.

ECHUCA VALUE BET: TRADING POST
Michael Dee hops aboard Trading Post, who is racing first up from a spell for trainer Corey Brown. His last two starts were not flash (11th and 9th), but we feel the spell came at the right time and the gelding is better than those showings. He is lightly raced and did run two seconds in a row after the last time he was spelled, with one of those runs at this track. He started favourite on that occasion and ran quite well to go down just over a length, before he got done by a nose at Mornington when favourite again. He has never started on a Heavy-rated track but does okay on soft ground, so we are hoping he can handle it. Adki and Antipodes will be hardest to beat, with both of those horses having won once in their last two starts.
