Midweek metropolitan racing returns to Eagle Farm Racecourse this Wednesday as it hosts a very competitive eight-race program. The current track rating of a Good 4 should be the same rating that we will be racing on for most of the day with good weather on the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. The rail will be in the +7m position for the entire circuit, which should prove favourable to runners who settle in the front half of the field.
The first race will jump at 1:27pm AEST.
Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Avolonte
Our best bet of the day will be the Stuart Kendrick-trained Avolonte, who recorded a nice win when second-up last start at the Gold Coast over 1100m on December 10. This daughter of Star Turn continued her impressive form when second-up taking her record to three wins and a placing from four starts, and now she will be looking for back-to-back to wins for the second time in her career this Wednesday. At her most recent start, this four-year-old mare burst through a tight gap in the final 200m to poke her head in between Wuddacuddashudda and The Kewess to take the narrow victory by a nose. From barrier one James Orman should be able to kick up on the rail and hold a prominent position behind the leaders. If the run comes and Orman can get her clear running room in the final 300m, this girl will be very hard to hold out again.

Next Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Olentia
In the penultimate race of the day, we will be siding with the Chris Waller-trained Olentia who did a lot wrong on debut, however, her above average ability got her through as she recorded a dominant 3.8 length victory at Doomben on December 9 over 1200m. This daughter of Zoustar settled towards the rear of the field in the nine-horse race, before finding the outside on the home turn and letting down with a booming finish indicating that she could be a very talented filly on the rise. On Wednesday, James Orman will take the ride and from barrier two he should have this girl settled in a similar position to where she was on debut and look to run on from the back of the field once again. If she can be within three lengths of the leaders on the home turn, she should be letting down with that booming finish and prove very hard to beat.
Next Best Bet

3yo Filly | T: Chris Waller | J: James Orman (55.5kg)

Best Value Bet at Eagle Farm: Petunia
Our value play of the day will come up in the final race, where Petunia from the Kelly Schweida yard will be trying to record back-to-back victories after an impressive win first-up this preparation at Doomben over 1350m on December 14. First-up this five-year-old mare settle stone motherless in the field of nine, before Kyle Wilson-Taylor weaved through the tiring horses and snuck up the inside to win by the barest of margins at massive odds with online bookmakers. Stepping up in grade from a Benchmark 65 to a Benchmark 68, she will have to improve at her second-up run, but with plenty of speed in this race, we expect Wilson-Taylor to adopt similar tactics in an attempt at a similar result.
