Racing returns to Eagle Farm this Saturday for a very competitive nine-race card highlighted by four Listed races. The track is currently rated a Soft 6, but with good weather in the area on Friday and Saturday, we should be on a Good track come raceday. The rail will be in the 1m position for the entire circuit, which should give every runner a fair chance. The first race of the day will kick off at 12:03pm AEST.
Listed Phelan Ready Stakes: Cifrado
The Listed Phelan Ready will feature a small field of seven with four of the runners making their debut. We will be siding with Cifrado from the Rex Lipp & Nicholas Hahn yard, who was brave on debut behind the smart Mishani Gangster at the Gold Coast over 900m on November 30. This two-year-old colt sat on-speed outside the leader and eventual winner, but he didn’t handle the tight turn at the Gold Coast. After rounding the bend, this guy balanced up and let down nicely to take some ground off the winner, which should hold him in good stead for this at the bigger Eagle Farm track. From barrier six, James Orman will have the opportunity to push forward if there is no speed or sit behind the leaders if they overdo it.

Listed Calaway Gal Stakes: Empress Of Wonder
The second of the Listed races for the day will be the Calaway Gal, where we will be siding with Annabel Neasham-trained Empress Of Wonder. This two-year-old filly was beaten by Charm Stone on debut in the Group 3 Ottawa Stakes during the Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington. On debut this girl was all over the place down the Flemington straight and she possibly threw the race away by laying in and running out in the final 300m. This race on Saturday will be a drop back in grade for this daughter of Choisir and she should be suited by running around a bend at her second career start. From barrier 11, Chad Schofield can settle at the back of the field, before pulling out just before the bend and run home strong down the outside.

Listed Just Now Quality: Better Get Set
In the Listed Just Now, Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted will have their in-form mare, Better Get Set, engaged where she will be looking for a hattrick of wins. At her last two starts this five-year-old mare has won over 1200m at Eagle Farm and Sunshine Coast, with Ben Thompson on board at both starts. Thompson will stick with the mare on Saturday and from barrier seven he should be able to get her into the one-one again and if she can get there without doing too much work, she will have every chance to win again. Currently this daughter of Better Than Ready is $6 with online bookmakers, which is a fair price as she will get 5kg off the top weight and race favourite, Juan Diva.

Best Bet at Eagle Farm: Shooting For Gold
Our best bet of the day will be Shooting For Gold from the Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted yard, who will be returning from a three-month spell after running in Victoria at the start of the Victorian Spring Carnival. This five-year-old gelding won the Group 3 Caulfield Stakes over 1100m before going on to run seventh by only 2.5 lengths in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality two weeks later. This son of Shooting To Win has a very good fresh record (5:2-2-1) where he has never missed the placings, while recording two wins. This gelding is the class runner in the field and that is why he has been given the equal top weight of 59kg, but if he turns up ready to go and brings that same form he had in Victoria, he should be too good for this field.

Best Value Bet at Eagle Farm: Vaccine
Our best value bet will be the Tony Gollan-trained Vaccine, who will be second-up after running fourth first-up at the Gold Coast over 1200m on November 26. This four-year-old mare made solid ground in the final 200m first-up, indicating to us that she needed the extra 200m that she will get on Saturday. This daughter of Not A Single Doubt has only had one start at the Eagle Farm 1400m for a win, and she will be looking to keep her unbeaten record in tack this weekend. Jim Byrne will have his first ride on this mare, and from barrier seven he should be able to settle her just worse than midfield and look to run on with her customary turn of foot.
