We kick-off our racing week with a competitive seven-race program set down for decision at the Dubbo Turf Club. We’ve got some nice weather forecast leading into Monday afternoon as we should be racing on a Good to Firm surface out in the west of NSW. The rail is in the true position the entire circuit, so look for the rail to be a hot commodity throughout the card, which is set to get underway from 1:45pm AEDT.
Dubbo Best Bet Of The Day: British Statesman
Our best bet of the afternoon on Monday comes in the fifth race over the 1400m in maiden company as British Statesman makes his debut. This three-year-old gelding has been trialling the house down at his home track at Dubbo and looks ready to go here in his first career start. Trainer Gayna Williams has looked to be very patient with this galloper by Churchill as he had three trials with the new stable, and now looks ready and fit enough to be competitive here. Brooke Stower has taken the reins in all three eye-catching barrier trials, and she’ll be looking to press forward from the wide gate on Monday afternoon and provided she can find some cover somewhere mid-field, we think British Statesman is extremely hard to beat.
Best Bet
Race 5 – #1 British Statesman (10)
3yo Gelding | T: Gayna Williams | J: Brooke Stower (59kg)
$2.20 with Ladbrokes
Next Best Bet: Compelling Truth
We jump back to race three for our next best of the afternoon with the Mack Griffith-trained gelding, Compelling Truth. He’s second-up here after going down a short-priced favourite at this track and distance on December 19 and should taken plenty of improvement from that effort when going down by just 1.5 lengths. He finds a much easier task here on Monday afternoon and draws the perfect barrier to get a saloon passage run in transit and should only improve with racing under his belt. Grant Buckley sticks with this son of I Am Invincible and should be finding the short way home up the inside and hopefully this time Compelling Truth can prove too strong for his rivals on Monday.
Best Bet
Race 3 – #9 Compelling Truth (2)
3yo Gelding | T: Mack Griffith | J: Grant Buckley (57.5kg)
$2.50 with Neds
Best Value Bet: Turgenev
We’ll be looking to bag a winner in the first race of the afternoon as the in form Turgenev looks a nice each-way price in the opener. He’s had just the one start for the new stable and it was a nice maiden victory at Gilgandra on New Years Eve and should be looking to bounce in this Class 1 & Maiden company contest. He goes from the 1200m to the 1600m here and we think that is a positive for this son of I Am Invincible as his form down in Victoria would suggest getting out to a staying trip is going to suit him going forward. Andrew banks takes the reins again and will be looking to slot in midfield throughout this contest before being exposed late in the piece to salute at a nice price with online bookmakers.
Best Bet
Race 1 – #4 Turgenev (7)
4yo Gelding | T: Kieren Hazelton | J: Andrew Banks (59kg)
