HorseBetting’s Queensland form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the eight-race metropolitan program at Doomben Racecourse on Wednesday, April 13, after the track hosted nine races over the weekend. On Saturday, the rail was out 3m and horses closer to the fence had a fairly large advantage compared to those making ground, so with the rail out 11m on Wednesday, we expect horses to be looking for the outside few lanes in order to get away from the used grass from just four days earlier. Drying conditions are going to improve the track in the next couple of days, with the current track rating a Soft 5. Racing is scheduled to get underway at 12:33pm AEST.
Best Bet at Doomben – Rising Prophet
We really liked the trial of Rising Prophet in his first public appearance at the Sunshine Coast on April 5. The three-year-old colt by Capitalist was a bit tardy away from barrier two, but Kyle Wilson-Taylor allowed him to cruise through his gears nicely where he found the front and kicked nicely clear in the straight to win the 850m trial by 2.5 lengths. Wilson-Taylor had a few good looks over his shoulder up the straight and he eased him down in the concluding stages, but it was still enough for the colt to get within half a second of the fastest heat of the morning, which was won by Palazzo Spirit, a two-year-old Listed winner. From barrier eight, Wilson-Taylor is likely to look for the front aboard the Steele Ryan-trained galloper which should be enough for him to win on debut.
Next Best at Doomben – Weneiri
In the first leg of the Wednesday quaddie, Robbie Fradd will hop back aboard the Toby & Trent Edmonds-trained Weneiri in a competitive Class 1 Handicap over 1050m. The three-year-old gelding won well on debut at this track over 1200m back in August before running fourth at the Gold Coast in a five-horse field at his subsequent start, tailing off as an odds on favourite. Since then, the son of Rothesay has been gelded and has trialled very well, while the application of Blinkers for the first time should suit this talented galloper. He comes into this race on the back of a trial win on the Gold Coast over 1000m where he recorded the fastest time of the morning, defeating speedy stablemate Empress Zou by a length, while his time was quicker than Alpine Edge – a Group 3 winner. He has drawn wide in barrier 11, so we are hoping that Fradd doesn’t use this gelding up early to go forward and instead rides him patiently and finishes off the better. We wouldn’t be too shocked if he wins this in dominant fashion.
Best Value at Doomben – Swear On A Promise
We are hoping that Kyle Wilson-Taylor can start the day off with a winning double, as he partners our ‘best bet’ in race two and our ‘best value’ in the opener. Swear On A Promise is one galloper who has always shown glimmers of potential and she just about put it all together last time out at the Sunshine Coast when recording her first placing, finishing second behind the Group-performed Ultimate Pride. She hit the line nicely on that occasion over the mile, so she should be nice and fit for this 1660m assignment. From the inside alley, Wilson-Taylor will likely look for cover early given that there is a fair bit of speed in the race, which will then allow the three-year-old filly to peel off their backs and let down strongly late. She looks to be a good each-way play in the first race on the program.
