Brisbane Racing Club will host a very competitive nine-race card out of Doomben Racecourse this Saturday afternoon. The current track rating is a Soft 7 and it expected to only improve slightly to a Soft 5 at the very best. The rail will be in the +3m position for the entire circuit, with the first race set to jump at 11:58am AEST.
Best Bet at Doomben: Simbu
The QTIS 3YO Handicap will be one of the better contests on the program, where Tony Gollan-trained Simbu is looking to complete a hat-trick of wins. This gelding was very impressive when breaking his maiden at this track and trip two starts back on June 21, after settling on-speed and running away with a stylish 1.6-length victory. Although this son of Spirit Of Boom won last start, he wobbled around in the final 200m and showed that he doesn’t know what it’s all about yet. However, he chases the line and shows a strong will to win, and that could be enough to get Simbu home in this race.

Next Best at Doomben: Reliable Ruby
After finishing an unlucky fourth last start in a 1000m Benchmark 85 at the Sunshine Coast on July 1, Reliable Ruby from the Chris Munce yard will appreciate the step back in grade to a Fillies & Mares No Metro Wins Handicap. This five-year-old had won three in a row before going to the Sunshine Coast, with the third of those wins coming at this track over 1050m on June 14 when nabbing Inasec on the line. On Saturday, this daughter of Spirit Of Boom gives up 3kg to Inasec; however, after her classy performance last start and with her consistent winning attitude, we expect Reliable Ruby to get the job done once again.
Next Best
Race 4 – #1 Reliable Ruby (4)
5yo Mare | T: Chris Munce | J: Damien Thornton (57.5kg)

Best Value at Doomben: Contemptuous
The Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted-trained Contemptuous drops back from the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes to an Open Handicap, where he appears to be well over the odds at $12 with most online bookmakers. The six-year-old horse was very good first-up this preparation when he finished third in the Group 2 Moreton Cup – only beaten 3.8 lengths by Prince Of Boom at massive odds. The last time this son Rubick raced in open company, he won at Eagle Farm over 1200m carrying a similar weight, so he looks a great bet at double-figure odds in the penultimate race.
