Doomben Racecourse will be the host for Wednesday’s metropolitan meeting in Queensland this week, with a very competitive eight-race card set down for decision. The track is currently rated a Soft 5; however, with warm weather and no rain on the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, we expect to be racing on a Good 4 for the entire program. The rail will be in the +11m position for the entire circuit, which should prove favourable to leaders and on-speed runners.
Best Bet at Doomben: Naval Trader
The Steven O’Dea & Matthew Hoysted-trained Naval Trader will return from a four-month spell this Wednesday, with the benefit of a nice barrier trial over 840m at Doomben under his belt. This three-year-old gelding broke his maiden in fine style at his last start, defeating Parallel by 1.8 lengths over 1400m at Eagle Farm on March 15. There is some argument that this son of Merchant Navy, who ran second at his first two starts, should be undefeated. Jaden Lloyd will continue his strong affiliation with this guy, and if he can settle in the one-one, Naval Trader should prove very hard to hold out.

Next Best at Doomben: Rose By Design
Rose By Design returned from a four-month spell at this track over 1100m on July 12, where she led for most of the race but was overrun and finished third. With this six-year-old mare returning to Doomben and dropping back to 1050m second-up, expect similar front-running tactics as she jumps from barrier 10 of 10. This daughter of Master Of Design has a good record second-up (5:2-0-1), while she has two wins and two placings from seven starts over 1050m. If Sean Cormack can find the lead without doing too much work early, Rose By Design will give us a very good sight out in front.

Race 6 – #9 Rose By Design (10)

Best Value at Doomben: Quothquan
The John Dann-trained Quothquan has finished third at both of his starts to date. This three-year-old gelding settled way too far back last start over 1200m at Eagle Farm on July 5, before making up a stack of ground on the outside to finish third – beaten 1.2 lengths. This son of Rothesay will jump from a better barrier (6 of 11) and should be able to settle much closer to the speed. With the aid of Jake Molloy’s 3kg claim and a much more positive ride, Quothquan will get every chance to break his maiden at his third career start.
Best Value
Race 3 – #7 Quothquan (6)
3yo Gelding | T: John Dann | J: Jake Molloy (a3) (57kg)
