Dogs to follow – Stella Girl, Hara’s Skipper and Coppola Bale

Form expert Dale Code has picked out a selection of greyhounds to follow from around Victoria. You may even want to add them to your Blackbook account.

STELLA GIRL (Box 6)
Breeding:
Aug ‘20 Orson Allen x Mepunga Midget
Trainer: Chloe Dew, Anakie
Record: 30 starts 4-3-3

Dale says: Stella Girl has done most of her racing over the sprint distances and her lack of early speed combined with her vulnerable weight of just 26kg has seen her often buried back in the field and finding bother.

She made her distance debut at Bendigo (660m) last start and found the slower tempo to her liking where she was able to settle closer to the early speed and power away to record a fast 37.57sec win.

Stella Girl is running at Shepparton tonight (Race 4) over the 650m and I’m expecting her to win again.

More wins seem around the corner now that she has found her ideal distance.

Best traits: Sustained speed
Ideal draw: Box 1
Ideal distance: 650m

HARA’S SKIPPER (Box 6)
Breeding:
 Aug ‘20 Sennachie x Hara’s Annie
Trainer: Vicki Wisener, Devon Meadows
Record: 13 starts 5-2-3

Dale says: Hara’s Skipper made last week’s edition of Runs of the Fortnight.

He looks set for a crack at the up-and-coming Group 1 Australian Cup and there is no doubting that he has the speed to match the best dogs in the land.

His down side is that he lacks a little bit of early speed but he makes it up with his unrivalled will to win and sustained speed.

Hara’s Skipper certainly has the recipe to be an elite performer for quite some time.

Best traits: Tenancious; unrivalled will to win
Ideal draw: Box 1
Ideal distance: 525m

COPPOLA BALE (Box 7)
Breeding:
Oct ’20 Allen Deed x Kachina Allen
Trainer: Simon Rhodes, Bargo NSW
Record: 17 starts 2-3-3

Dale says: Coppola Bale has a modest record of two wins from 17 starts, but he has caught the eye in his past three placings at The Meadows.

Coppola Bale can take a while to wind up but his run home times are impressive and, with continued improvement, he can develop into a more than handy performer over 500m and beyond.

Best traits: Tenacious chaser; powerful finishing burst
Ideal draw: Box 8
Ideal distance: 550m
