Direct for Lloyd Kennewell and Zac Spain was way too good for his rivals in the Magic Millions 3YO & 4YO Classic at Ballarat.

Coming off two wins at his last two starts at Mornington and Moonee Valley this four-year-old gelding has definitely hit a purple patch of form this preparation.

Direct jumped an equal third favourite at $5.50 with online bookmakers and he saluted for his followers that stayed with him on the testing Heavy track.

Lloyd Kennewell was really bullish about his gelding’s chances pre-race in the 3YO & 4YO Classic, and he wasn’t wrong.

“Zac (Spain) executed my plans perfectly and couldn’t have asked for it to go any better really.”

Kennewell was very happy with Zac Spain’s ride post-race when he spoke with Racing.com.

“It was a pretty painless watch.

“I had to turn the TV’s off and the radio off, everyone said that he couldn’t run 1100 (metres), but he was clearly the best horse in the race and he won like it.

Kennewell finished his interview with a little swipe at the “nay sayers” that didn’t think his gelding could win today.

Zac Spain has now ridden this guy to all three wins this preparation and he is creating a very good relationship with this horse.

“He’s racing in terrific form since he’s come back as a gelding,” Spain said post-race.

“The doubters said he wouldn’t get 1100 (metres) but he was strong and when he got to the front he had a look around and if something had of gone to him, he would have gone again.

“He’s been a good little horse to me now, three from three, so hopefully we can keep the winning partnership.”
