The Darwin Turf Club is proud to announce Top End resident Tannwyn Lewis as its 2023 Darwin Cup Carnival Ambassador.
The up-and-coming model, who has already adorned several fashion shows across the country, proved to be the outstanding candidate from a strong list of applicants for the coveted role.
Grant Dewsbury, Darwin Turf Club’s chief executive officer, said Lewis was an outstanding choice and one who possesses all the qualities aligned with the role of being this year’s Cup Carnival Ambassador.
“Tannwyn is a big supporter of the Darwin Turf Club and has been a frequent attendee of many Darwin Cups,” he said.
“She also has a background in equestrian and has a genuine love of horses.
“There’s no doubt Tannwyn will prove to be a great advocate for Darwin’s showpiece event.”
Lewis said she was honoured to take on the position and looks forward to embracing all of what the carnival represents to the Top End.
“Horses have been a passion of mine since I was a child, and I enjoy everything that it encompasses including the thrill of thoroughbred racing,” she said.
“I can’t wait to showcase some of our wonderful retailers and designers over this period.
“I already have some great ideas which I can’t wait to share.”
Tannwyn hails from Indigenous and Welsh descent, and is proud to utilise her Cup Carnival platform to also be a role model for the younger Indigenous community.
“I’m passionate about empowering younger people especially with my heritage and connection to first nations people,” she said.
“I look forward to hopefully presenting myself within this role as a positive role model in my community.”
The Darwin Cup Carnival commences on Saturday, July 8, and runs through to Monday, August 7 – Darwin Cup Day – with tickets on sale through the Darwin Turf Club website (www.darwinturfclub.org.au).
“Ticket sales are once again strong for this year’s Darwin Cup,” Dewsbury added.
“We’re incorporating new areas and events with the centrefield opening up on Darwin Cup Day to be a real party zone for the general public with a distinct festival feel.
“Some major announcements are soon to be made with at least three headline acts appearing on stage for the entire day and then continue right through to the after party.”
There will be a number of high-profile functions held off the track during the Cup Carnival, including the Let’s Talk Racing Luncheon and Darwin Select Tried Horse Sale at Fannie Bay’s TAB Pavilion on Thursday, August 3.
There’s also the Gala Ball on Saturday, August 5, and the Darwin Cup Calcutta at the Silks Club, located at the top of the straight at Fannie Bay, on Sunday, August 6.
