Darwin Cup Carnival action continues with 81 horses accepting for the seven-event meeting on Saturday afternoon. The feature race on Day 2 is the $60,000 Chief Minister’s Cup (1600m) at weight-for-age level where a majority of the runners will be having their final hit-out before the $200,000 Darwin Cup (2050m) on August 5. Sunny conditions and light winds are the forecast for Saturday. The Fannie Bay rail will be in the true position and it will once again be a good dirt surface.
BEST BET: Pop Magic
With six wins and five seconds from 16 starts, Pop Magic is clearly a Fannie Bay specialist, and in his past seven starts, he has managed three wins and four seconds. Winner of the $40,000 Wet Season Series Final (1200m) at 0-70 level in early February by 6.8 lengths, Pop Magic backed up for another win over 1200m (0-70) in March before a last start second behind Palmerston Sprint aspirant Canton Kid over 1000m (0-76) on June 29. Settling a distant third behind Canton Kid and Rising Sphere, the son of Wandjina motored home to finish 1.3 lengths adrift of the winner.

NEXT BEST: Raffalli
Raffalli lost his edge in November, but since returning from a spell he has done little wrong. The five-year-old gelding was a first up third over 1000m (0-64) behind Mr Have A Chat in April before finishing third once again over 1100m (0-64) behind Patriotic King in May. Jumping from the inside gate, the son of Choisir basically led all the way before sneaking home over 1300m (0-64) in May. After drawing gate eight, he battled for the early lead and just failed to hold on when second behind the fast-finishing Influential Jack over 1300m (0-70) on June 15. A good draw and a 1.5kg claim is a bonus.

BEST VALUE: Iknowhatyouredoing
Iknowhatyouredoing made his NT debut in Darwin last year and in five starts he managed a second and three thirds from 1100-1600m. The son of Husson had only four starts in the Red Centre from October-April for a second over 1600m (BM54) and a third over 1200m (0-70) before a third behind He’s Maverick, who won last Saturday’s Darwin Guineas, and Lamprecht’s Daniher, who also saluted last weekend. Iknowhatyouredoing has blown the start over 1300m and 1600m since returning to Darwin before rattling home to suggest that if he jumps well he’s a chance.
