Daily Mail: Rebellious the hottest ticket in town

‘Next big thing’ Rebellious (8 from 10) is a young ‘rebel with a cause’.

He’s a “star prospect”, according to form expert The Watchdog. And who would disagree!

Only 23 months old, the Jason Thompson-trained flier won The Prospector in a near-TR 23.42sec after finishing third in the Pink Diamond Rookie Short Course – both over 425m at Bendigo.

He’s also won 3 from 3 over 400m (22.28sec PB) at Warragul and, daringly defiant, steps up tonight to its 460m trip chasing six wins from his past seven starts.

The Warragul fixture is chock-full of class and also includes Steve White’s duo – ex-SA G3 winner Fly For Trix (18 from 29 incl. 10 of past 15), Man Absconded (22 wins) and ex-NSW talent Paua Of Mindy who made a ‘paua-ful’ 22.23sec (Best) statement on Vic debut here last week.

And effervescent Soda Diamond (10 from 17) – Healesville Puppy Championship winner and Healesville Derby finalist – should also sparkle.

Meanwhile, G2 WA Derby finalist Envy To Burn (7 from 18 & 3 from 4 Box 1), Betatron (6 from 11 Trk/Dst) and Defy The Critics (3 from 4) are on The Watchdog’s A-list at Horsham this afternoon.

Finally, today’s Healesville program completes a ‘Terrific Tuesday’. It’s highlighted by Smart As Jack (17 from 41) – a finalist in the G3 Northern Districts Cup and Pink Diamond Champion Sprinter – who is 2 from 2 (16.74sec PB) over 300m ‘up the straight’.

And don’t miss a sensational showdown between G1 Sapphire Crown finalist Persian Goddess (10 from 23) v Coolant (10 from 17 incl. 5 of past 6) v Made Me Blind (14 from 38).

REBELLIOUS ? The Clock

?Warragul ? Race 8 ? 460m ⏱ 9:05pm

Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666541460/race/8

The Watchdog says ?: REBELLIOUS (8) has megastar potential and is one of the hottest tickets in the sport at present. He has only had the 10 starts to date, but he has won eight of those and the last two have been enormous with sub-23.50 seconds Bendigo wins. From the outside draw he should be able to gain a clear passage initially and will have sufficient pace to cross and lead. The current track record is 25.19sec, which is held by the great Shima Shine, and I don’t think he can get to that mark, however a sub 25.50sec run should be on the cards and hopefully we get to see this budding star head to town soon. He is expected to start unbackable odds, so punters might want to anchor him up front in their exotics and quaddies. CRUISY’S SPECIAL (6), FLYING FIFI (5) and OAMARU BALE (3) are all capable types and will be looking to take home the minor money.

The Watchdog says
? : REAR VIEW MIRROR (7) loves this track and he will be very strong in the run to the line. PIRATE TAILS (1) has a favourable draw and she should be on the pace throughout. RELOADED (1) has panels on his rivals and should be scoring with ease, whilst FLY FOR TRIX (1) was a tad unlucky here last week and he is expected to run a big race tonight.

The Watchdog says
? : SMART AS JACK (3) has a clear class edge over his rivals and with an ounce of luck early he should be scoring. LAYBACK CRUISER (5) is still racing well at nearly five years of age and he should be in the top two throughout. NIHARI BALE (1) has the advantage of the inside draw and is racing with tremendous confidence at present.

The Watchdog says ? : Looks straight forward tonight. GREAT SCOUT (3) is a genuine jet and with a clean getaway he should be scoring. The wings should control the second leg – JET LEE ROSE (1) is ultra-consistent and well-drawn, whilst MAN ABSCONDED (8) has them all covered for talent and he just needs to step on terms. FLY FOR TRIX (1) was unlucky last week and he can go one better, while REBELLIOUS (8) looks to be an absolute moral in the last leg.
