Daily Mail: Rambo and Hank ready to hustle

A heavyweight distance duel between staying stars Zipping Rambo and Hank The Hustler will headline Saturday night racing at The Meadows.

G1 Sandown Cup hero Zipping Rambo (16 from 34) is making his 725m debut at the track and is striving to turn the tables on Hank The Hustler (7 of past 12 – 3 from 6 Box 8) after going down narrowly in their previous clash at Sandown Park.

With the heats of the G1 Maturity only one week away, a number of likely contenders will strut their stuff, including Lala Kiwi (8 from 18 – 29.84sec PB) and Jepara (6 from 13 Trk/Dst – 29.83sec PB), which clash in race 8, along with Providence Bale (7 of last 10) and Pink Diamond Champion Sprint finalist Gypsy Yankee (3 of past 6).

Race 7 sees a great clash between Carry On Angel (third G1 Harrison-Dawson) v Mepunga Reject (Cranbourne Winter Cup winner).

One of the stars of the recent Pink Diamond series, Collinda Patty (3 from 7) is another young gun to keep an eye on, as is Gypsy Wyong (5 from 9 – 3 from 4 Box 2) over 600m.

At Horsham, ultra-consistent G1 placegetter Papi Go Fast (23 from 41 – 2 from 2 Horsham 410m) is looking to enhance his imposing strike rate.

ZIPPING RAMBO ? HANK THE HUSTLER

?The Meadows ? Race 9 ? 725m ⏱ 9:12pm

Form ? https://watchdog.grv.org.au/meeting/666541448/race/9

The Watchdog says ?: These two star stayers had a stirring battle at Sandown Park two runs back and although ‘Hank’ took home bragging rights, I think ‘Rambo’ can turn the tables tonight. ZIPPING RAMBO (2) is the reigning Group 1 Sandown Cup champ, and he is one of the most versatile chasers we have seen. He led them up when defeated at Sandown by ‘Hank’ and, on that occasion, he carved out blistering sectionals before getting very tired. If he can step well again tonight, he should be able to set up a bigger lead in the middle stages and I expect him to hit the line a lot better this time around and get the cash. HANK THE HUSTLER (8) has continued to elevate his game over this distance range and, in that win at Sandown, he showed he can come from off the pace over this journey as well. The slight concern tonight is that he may have to work hard in the initial stages to cross and, if he gets dragged down in the process, he may be giving our top elect too much of a start. The small field should allow these two big guns to gain a clear passage and it should be a thrilling affair throughout. WHATEVER I SAY (7) is on the up and she has pace to burn, however with ‘Rambo’ in the line-up she is unlikely to get a cheap lead, so place claims look best for her. STAR BLAZER (1) is an interesting runner. He can be hard to follow but he can lead or come from off the pace and is capable of causing an upset.

The Watchdog says
? : THINK BIG HARRY (1) is a big powerful type and he will be suited around Horsham so from the inside draw there should be no excuses. SAINT MAC (4) faces a significant class drop and the small field will help his chances. BLACK AVENGER (3) is a serious prospect and this should be a nice lead up for him coming into the Maturity Series.

The Watchdog says
? : The inside division have all the early speed and I expect them to dominate Race 3. The stayer’s event (Race 5) appears to be a two-dog race with SO PREDICTABLE (2) and WEBLEC HAZE (4) holding the class edge, however, have included LUMP SUM (5) and MEPUNGA ROYAL (7) at odds. CARRY ON ANGEL (1) has a nice draw, and a top three finish looks likely, whilst LALA KIWI (3) is airborne at present, and she can lead throughout. We have included GYPSY YANKEE (8) as well, as he may cross and lead if ‘Lala’ misses the kick slightly.

The Watchdog says ? : ‘Hank’ got the better of him two runs back, however I think ZIPPING RAMBO (2) will be better for that run and can turn the tables. I’m expecting him to pounce on the early lead and, with his main rival being a keen railer drawn out wide, he may have trouble crossing and will be giving our selection too much of a break mid race.
