Twilight racing heads to the Cranbourne Turf Club on Thursday afternoon for a competitive eight-race program set down for decision. The track is currently listed as a Good 4 for race-day, however, there is some rain expected heading into the meeting, so we’ve elected to do the form expecting a Soft 5 surface. The rail has moved out 9m the entire circuit so it’s likely for the inside to be superior heading into the program with the first race set to get us underway from 4:30pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Cranbourne: There There
We’ll be looking to kick-off the Cranbourne card with a bang as our best bet of the afternoon comes in the first race with There There looking very hard to beat in the opener. She’s second-up in the preparation after a luckless first-up effort at Bendigo on December 11 and should’ve finished much closer than the 2.8 length margin may suggest, as she was four-wide throughout and never found cover before still finding plenty going past the post. She drew barrier 13 in a big field at Bendigo, however, she shouldn’t find as much trouble drawn barrier 1 in a field with just the eight runners. From there, we expect Jamie Kah to go find a positive spot and maybe even lead turning for home and we think this Maher & Eustace-trained filly will take some beating.

Next Best at Cranbourne: Winning Bid
We see the return of three-year-old filly Winning Bid on Thursday afternoon after finding some tough assignments in her two-year-old campaign. The Busuttin and Young team look to have found a nice starting point for this daughter of Fastnet Rock after two soft but eye-catching jump outs at Cranbourne where she ran second in both under very little riding going to post. She’s returning fit enough for this maiden contest and will be looking to improve on what she produced last preparation and feel she should be more than competitive in this company after coming back significantly in grade. Jockey Daniel Moor know this filly well taking the reins twice last preparation, so hopefully he can find a spot somewhere midfield before finding Winning Bid is just too good for maiden company.

Best Value at Cranbourne: Bendolirra
You’re getting a nice each-way quote for this first-up gelding from the Lloyd Kennewell yard as Bendolirra makes his return from a 230-day spell. He ran into a very smart horse in his only race start called Berkeley Square whose campaign culminated in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase victory and while Bendolirra may not reach those heights as a three-year-old, the fact he was only beaten 5 lengths on debut by Berkeley Square reads well for this maiden contest over the 1300m. They put him away since that performance and finds a nice maiden race first-up after two strong jump outs coming in, we’re willing to snap up the each-way price as Zac Spain should find a box seat position from barrier five, before peeling off the leaders to have every chance to break his maiden status on Thursday afternoon.
