The weekly Friday night meet at Cranbourne is upon us once again with another eight-race affair programmed. Following plenty of rain in the region, we are set to be racing on a track no better than the Heavy 9 it is currently listed, while the rail sticks to the true position from the 1600m-1000m and comes out 3m the entire circuit. We kick off the night of racing at 5:45pm AEST.
Best Bet at Cranbourne: Brungle Raider
In the second leg of the quaddie, the Henry Dwyer-trained Brungle Raider will be looking to make it three wins in a row when he steps out over 2520m. The five-year-old gelding put the best part of four lengths on his rivals at Stawell two runs back and then thumped his rivals at the 2600m here on a Heavy 8 on April 28 in a truly dominant performance. He draws to settle up on speed having drawn out in barrier eight under Luke Nolen. He has a near-bombproof record on rain-affected going, and if he replicates what he did last time out, Brungle Raider should prove too strong for this lot once again.

Next Best at Cranbourne: Field Of Mars
The Simon Zahra-trained Field Of Mars has been nothing but impressive in his two runs this campaign, finishing second at both starts. The gelded son of Russian Revolution was unlucky first-up at Donald when beaten 1.25 lengths after being held up for a run, and then he was pipped in the shadows of the winning post at Pakenham on April 13. That effort was on a Soft 7 over 1200m, so the step back to the 1000m on Friday night on a Heavy 9 could be the recipe for success. From barrier one, Daniel Stackhouse should look to take luck out of the equation, and under a well-rated steer we’re hopeful Field Of Mars will relish the slop and run his rivals ragged in the 1000m scamper.

Next Best Again at Cranbourne: Rylov
We’ll be looking to bow out with the ever-prominent Peter Moody and Luke Nolen combination when they team up with last-start Pakenham winner Rylov in the last. He managed to hold on after leading up over 1200m last time out, and from barrier three it would be no surprise to see the bloke do the same thing. The slight query is whether he will handle a Heavy track, having not raced on anything worse than a Soft 5. He looks to be a horse who can do a bit wrong in his races, but we’re happy to be with Rylov in the last at Cranbourne.
