Friday evening racing will return to Cranbourne Turf Club this week with a competitive eight-race program. The track is currently rated a Good 4 with warm weather forecast for Melbourne and surrounds, so we expect to be racing on a Good track come Friday. The rail will be in the in the +3m position from the 1000m mark to the winning post and in the true position for the remainder of the circuit. The first race will jump at 6:15pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Cranbourne: Squami
Our best bet at Cranbourne will be the Simon Zahra-trained Squami who has finished in the top four at all three of his starts this preparation, including a win at Terang over 1200m two starts back on December 20. After leading the field up at Cranbourne last start, this son of Squamosa was run over in the final 100m by Galactic Fury who came home from the back of the field and looked to have run out the 1300m slightly stronger. Simon Zahra and his team have chosen to drop this five-year-old gelding back to the 1200m on Friday and if he can find the lead once again, he will be fit enough to run out a strong 1200m. With Tramontana being the other leading contender in the race, we expect to see both of them take the lead and try and kick away on the home turn. Damien Thornton has ridden this gelding at all three of his starts this time in and there will be no difference on Friday.

Next Best at Cranbourne: Drake Passage
In the third leg of the quaddie we will be siding with the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Drake Passage who is coming off a nice win over 1629m at Werribee on January 7. This four-year-old gelding has recorded two wins and two placings from his nine career starts, with eight of his nine starts coming over 1600m plus. This son of Jakkalberry was very good first-up at Werribee where he ran away from his rivals to record an easy 2.75 length victory over Tactfull. During the run this gelding settled just worse than midfield and rounded the field up on the home turn to kick clear and win easily with a lot in the tank. Patrick Moloney will stick and from barrier one, he should have this guy in midfield position on the rail, just needing luck on the home bend. If this gelding gets the luck in running, he will be running home strong to stake his claim in the final 200m of the 2025m event.

Best Value at Cranbourne: Nakedness
In the second leg of the quaddie John McArdle will bring his three-year-old gelding, Nakedness, to Cranbourne after winning his last start at Mornington over 1500m on January 8. This son of So You Think ran second on debut at Yarra Valley over 1200m where he showed that he was looking for more ground, which is what he received next start at Mornington. At his most recent start, this gelding sat behind the speed on the rails before peeling off the leaders back to run away with a nice maiden win. Jamie Mott will take the reins on this gelding for the first time on Friday and from barrier three this guy should settle just behind the leaders and try to replicate his last-start maiden win.
