HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst has previewed the nine-race meeting at Cowra on Sunday and brings you his best bets, best value, quaddie numbers and Cowra Cup best bet. The track is rated a Good 4 and the rail is in the true position. The first of nine will jump at 12:40pm AEDT.
Cowra Cup Best Bet – #2 Nieces And Nephews $4.40
Despite drawing the outside alley in gate 12, Nieces And Nephews looks capable of finding the front and getting a soft time of it up on the speed. The son of Zariz comes off a win in the Ted Ryder Handicap at Wagga on Christmas Eve over 1600m where he did enough to defeat Zakeriz. The six-year-old comes into this race rock-hard fit, while he should get a good ride from Quayde Krogh who has had a fair bit to do with the horse. He looks well placed in the Cowra Cup and is at decent odds with Australian bookmakers.
Best Bet – Race 3 #2 Possibly So $2.70
Andrew Ryan saddles up his maiden galloper, Possibly So, in the third race of the day. Lining up in just his third race start, this son of Star Witness caught the eye on debut, flashing into third place, just 0.7 lengths off the winner. The three-year-old had just the one trial at the beginning of this campaign, so he arguably would have needed the run, with his fast-finishing debut likely to have set him up well for this assignment. Drawn well in barrier eight, apprentice Ashleigh Stanley can have Possibly So midfield and charging home out wide to win his maiden at start two.
Next Best – Race 6 #3 Important Product $3.90
One of the more noticeable trainers with a runner in at this meeting is Kurt Goldman who saddles up Important Product in the first leg of the quaddie. The four-year-old son of Choisir has had 13 starts for two wins and four minor placings, and comes into this race off a 3.9-length defeat at Randwick in a competitive Class 3 Highway over 1100m. Important Product goes back to a Benchmark 58 for this race and rises to 1200m which should suit him better, he will just need to handle the 8kg rise in weight to 59.5kg. Brodie Loy takes over the riding duties which is a big plus, especially since he has to overcome the outside alley. The class drop is key.
Best Value – Race 5 #13 It’s Business Time $8.50
Allan McRae’s 10-year-old It’s Business Time has gained a start after a few scratchings have ensured the first emergency will get a run on Sunday, with the market already gravitating towards him and seeing him shorten from $13 into $8.60 with bet365. The son of Court Of Jewels has raced just 26 times in his career, winning five of those. The gelding is undefeated at this track, winning here over 1100m back in July 2018. Jumping from barrier four under Damon Budler, It’s Business Time should be looking to lead all of the way over the short 950m journey. The dry track will be to his liking.
