Corravally Star set to shine at Rangiora

Back-to-back grass feature wins beckon Corravally Star when he heads to Rangiora on Sunday.

The Washington VC entire was victorious in the Green Mile (1609m) at Methven last Sunday and will back-up this weekend in the New World Rangiora Summer Cup (2600m).

Trainer Regan Todd has been pleased with the way Corravally Star has come through the run but believes his 30m back mark will be his biggest hurdle this weekend.

“It is going to be hard for him off 30m, but he is in the zone at the moment,” Todd said.

“He has been ultra-consistent and has done a great job.

“It’s always hard getting put back all of the time, but it is nice winning as well. Winning the Green Mile was great the other day and you just have to cop it (rating rise) really.”

Corravally Star will continue to follow a summer cups path after Sunday, with the ultimate aim being the Country Cups Final next year.

“We will just race him on the Cups circuit and hopefully we can get him to the final next year,” Todd said.

“Bruce (Negus, former trainer) said he just missed out on it this year, so it would be nice to get him there.

“He will keep racing as long as he is going well and we will aim at getting as many points under our belt as we can to guarantee him a spot and then maybe give him a freshen-up after that if we need to.”

Meanwhile, Todd was pleased with stablemate Terry’s half-head victory over Heisenberg over 2600m at Addington Raceway on Friday.

“I was more than pleased with him. He hasn’t had a run since Timaru (last month),” Todd said.

“It has just been hard finding races for him to suit. There has been the Green Mile and races like that, but we are just trying to keep him off the grass.

“The Invercargill Cup tomorrow (Saturday) was probably going to be a bit too tough, so this turned out to be a nice race for him.

“He will just stay and race around the Canterbury region just over Christmas and then maybe head up to Nelson for the Nelson Cup.”
