Comrade Rosa tipped to shorten in Tattersall’s Tiara betting

Comrade Rosa is looking to do more than just make up the numbers on Saturday in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara at Eagle Farm.

The final Group 1 for the winter racing season is worth $700,000 for fillies and mares over 1400m and will be fiercely contested.

Trainer Tony Gollan is confident that his four-year-old daughter of Capitalist has shown her ability with back-to-back wins in the Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes ($7) and Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes ($17).

Winner: Comrade Rosa

Ryan Maloney retains the ride having partnered the mare on four occasions for three wins and a second.

Comrade Rosa has a career form line of six wins and five placings from 18 starts, earning $462,205 in prize money for connections.

Coming from the John O’Shea stable to join up with the Gollan Racing team in December, she was beaten in her stable debut by more than two lengths when finishing runner-up at Ipswich in January.

With great improvement, she has won four of her next five starts to emerge as a serious contender for the Tatts Tiara.

“She has gone from a horse who couldn’t muster any speed or hold a spot, to a horse who can jump and put herself in a position,” Gollan said.

“She looks absolutely brilliant going into the Tatts Tiara.

“She has done such a good job in a short time and I’m awfully proud of the job she has done.

“She has coped with racing and with each run she has looked better and she is definitely better again now.”

Comrade Rosa is paying around $16 with top Australian bookmakers for Saturday’s feature, and Gollan believes she is sure to come in shorter.

If successful, she will deliver the Brisbane-based master trainer his seventh career Group 1 to go with his soon-to-be 10th consecutive Brisbane training title.

In her way is the Luke Pepper-trained Opal Ridge, who will look to have her revenge having lost to Comrade Rosa in the Dane Ripper.

The three-year-old daughter of Rubick is a $3.30 favourite in Tatts Tiara betting markets, while the Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Ruthless Dame ($5) is the only other runner in single digits.
