Caulfield Racecourse is set to host a nine-part card on Saturday afternoon and HorseBetting’s Victorian horse racing form analyst brings you the best bets, top odds and free quaddie numbers. The track is rated a Good 4, with the rail out 3m the entire circuit, for the meeting commencing at 12:45pm AEDT.
Caulfield Best Bet – Criaderas
The James Cummings-trained Criaderas is always a risky bet, but in the opening leg of the quddie, we anticipate the Godolphin runner will break a run of outs 15 months in the making. The five-year-old son of Lonhro consistently runs well, but continually finds one better over the concluding stages or gives them too much of a start. He comes to this BM100 at Caulfield with arguably the best form lines behind Parry Sound and Brutality in Group races. He gains the services of Damien Oliver for this his first run in Victoria. He loomed as the winner of the Group 3 Summer Cup last time out and with this being his second go at 2000m, Criaderas looks a clear best bet on Caulfield’s card.
Next Best Bet at Caulfield – Sig Positano
The Patrick Payne-trained Sig Positano has returned in fine fashion this campaign with three minor placings and a win from four starts. He was a hard watch last time out at the Caulfield 1400m on December 26 where he was held up for a run a majority of the home straight. Once he saw clear air, he showed a nice turn of foot, but got hampered at a bad time and needed to settle for a third-place finish beaten under a length. He drops 3kg from that run as he steps into BM84 grade and considering the son of Canford Cliffs has not finish worse than third in five goes at 1400m, he should take a power of beating. From barrier seven, Johnny Allen will need a touch of luck to not get caught wide and if he gains cover, then Sig Positano looks to be one of the best bets on Saturday.
Best Value Bet at Caulfield – Coup De Tonnerre
The Matt Cumani-trained Coup De Tonnerre chased home subsequent Bagot Handicap winner Tigertiger on December 22 and we think he can go on with the job at Caulfield. He was beaten a touch under three-lengths on that day and despite the price, we think the son of Night of Thunder can take out a BM70 affair like this. From barrier three and with speed drawn underneath him, Jordan Childs will look to give him the run of the race just off the leader’s heels. If he is afforded such luxury, then we expect Coup De Tonnerre to finish the better here and bring up a second win in three starts.
