Caulfield Racecourse plays host to a bumper nine-race card for Sir John Monash Stakes Day this Saturday afternoon. HorseBetting’s Victorian form expert presents his best bets and free quaddie numbers for the meeting, which is set to be run on a Good 4 with the rail out 3m the entire circuit. The last time the rail was out 3m (April 16), there was no evident bias, meaning every runner should get their chance on Saturday if good enough. The first race is set to jump at 11:50am AEST.
Sir John Monash Stakes Top Tip: Oxley Road
The Group 3 Sir John Monash Stakes is the feature event on Saturday’s card, and we are hoping the Peter Moody-trained Oxley Road can return a winner, with Group 1 races firmly on the agenda this spring. Having not missed the top three in five runs at The Heath, this bloke clearly relishes the track and is backed up by his win in the Group 2 Caulfield Sprint last spring and his placing behind Marabi in the Oakleigh Plate during the autumn this year. From barrier five and with Sartorial Splendor and Felicia drawn directly outside and inside of him respectively, Luke Nolen should have no issue in settling his mount in the one-one. Oxley Road’s turn of foot is sharp and arguably better than the rest of his rivals. If he is anywhere near his best, then the $3 with online betting sites is a steal for this bloke with bigger targets in mind later this prep.

Best Bet at Caulfield: Inundation
Inundation silenced all doubters with his dominant win at the Caulfield 1000m on June 25. Stepping up to the 1100m on Saturday, he simply looks too good in this three-year-old event for colts and geldings. Last time out, Jye McNeil had him settled outside the leader from barrier 10, and from barrier 11 this time around, we expect a similar recipe for success. With Hallowed Ground set to take up the running, look for McNeil to have him settled on the girth of his rival throughout this 1100m event. When asked for an effort at the top of the straight, Inundation should be putting a couple of lengths on his rivals in quick fashion. He is a three-year-old with plenty of talent and, despite the short quote, he is a clear best bet of the day.

Next Best at Caulfield: He’s Our Bonneval
Having won impressively on his Australian debut, we are hoping the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained He’s Our Bonneval can bring up a second win in as many starts on these shores. The five-year-old gelding gave his rivals a start and a beating on June 25, despite peaking on his run inside the final 50m. Second-up from a spell, you would expect he derived great benefit from his local debut, and despite staying at the 1400m, he looks one of the better bets of the day. He drops 2.5kg from that win as he steps into BM100 company, but if he replicates a similar turn of foot that he showed last time out, the Siyouni gelding has much more upside than most of his rivals. With a record of 10: 4-4-1, this lightly raced five-year-old should prove too good for this lot.

Best Value at Caulfield: Noname Lane
Having won his last two starts in South Australia, the Will Clarken-trained Noname Lane looks to be a great value play as he makes his Caulfield debut on Saturday. The five-year-old gelding has a racing pattern which is hard to knock; he jumps cleanly from the barriers, settles in the first four and offers a kick in the home straight. There is no doubt he would like a bit of rain to come in the lead up to race day, but with a record of 8: 0-3-2 on Good tracks, we expect he will handle the conditions nonetheless. The booking of Linda Meech from barrier three is a sure-fire sign on their intent to lead in this, and with most of the market fancies being backmarkers, we think Noname Lane can pinch this. The $13 with online bookmakers is a great price.
