Canterbury Park is the destination for metropolitan racing this Wednesday afternoon, with seven extremely competitive races set for decision. The rail is in the true position throughout the circuit, so horses ridden up on speed should have some advantage. The track is listed as a Soft 7 at the time of writing, and we expect the surface to sit somewhere in that range when the first race jumps at 1:25pm AEST.
Best Bet: The Milkybar Kid
The Milkybar Kid appears ready to peak third-up into the preparation after two tough front-running efforts. He faded on both occasions, most recently when clinging on to finish third behind Enotis at Randwick (Kensington) on August 2. He finally gets conditions to suit, with a record of four starts for two wins and two minor placings on wet tracks. From gate 11, The Milkybar Kid will be bowling along in front under jockey Adam Hyeronimus and should be hard to beat.

Next Best: Atlantic Ocean
It’s taken some time for Atlantic Ocean to find his best form; however, his latest effort at Randwick (Kensington) on August 2 was very encouraging. He got out of his ground when chasing home Stromboli and was unlucky not to chalk up his second win for the Chris Waller barn. The four-year-old has been luckless from the barriers and now finally draws a gate (4) to sit much closer in transit. He’s got an extra 150m to chase down his rivals on Wednesday, and with James McDonald electing to stick, Atlantic Ocean should be closing strongly again.

Next Best Again: High Plateau
High Plateau is a lightly raced gelding from the James Cummings camp and looks to have returned in great order. First-up at Newcastle on July 29, he closed off well against Our Kobison – who has since won again – and clearly needed the run over the short 900m trip to regain some fitness after his 15-week spell. The wet track poses no threat to his chances, and although he’s drawn awkwardly in barrier nine, we’re confident High Plateau can show his class to power over the top of his rivals.
