What Canterbury Races
Where Canterbury Park Racecourse – King St, Canterbury NSW 2193
When Wednesday, June 8, 2022
First Race 12:40pm AEST

HorseBetting’s New South Wales racing analyst presents his best bets and quaddie selections for Wednesday’s metropolitan meeting at Canterbury. Although the track is listed as a Heavy 8, perfect conditions in Sydney should see it upgraded prior to Race 1 at 12:40pm AEST. The rail will be out 6m for the entire course, which could give horses on speed an advantage.

Canterbury Best Bet – Contemporary

This is a pretty average program on Wednesday, with quite a few horses lining up without much of a winning hope. We have gone to the two-year-old race for our best bet of the program, tipping the James Cummings-trained Contemporary on top. The son of Exceed And Excel was narrowly beaten on debut at Flemington as a short-priced favourite, before heading north to Sydney and finishing midfield in the Kirkham Plate behind Ojai, Queen Of The Ball and Snitcat. After that, he was again midfield behind Sejardan in the Golden Gift before going for a spell. He resumed behind the talented Resonator at Gosford first-up, so the drop back to maiden company on Wednesday bodes well.

Best Bet

Race 3 – Silk #8 Contemporary (7)

2yo Colt | T: James Cummings | J: Hugh Bowman (56kg)

$7 with Ladbrokes

Canterbury Next Best – Tinnie Winnie

Chris Waller and James McDonald are a force to be reckoned with at the best of times, but from their past 17 runners together they have combined for seven wins (41%). The first win of that streak was Tinnie Winnie at this track on May 25. The four-year-old mare by So You Think dictated terms over 1550m last start and was able to kick away to win by over three lengths, so a repeat of that performance on Wednesday from barrier four should see her prove very hard to beat again. The rise to 1900m will only aid her chances.

Next Best

Race 4 – Silk #5 Tinnie Winnie (4)

4yo Mare | T: Chris Waller | J: James McDonald (58kg)

$3.10 with Neds

Canterbury Value Bet – Pleading

Angela Davies and Reece Jones combine with in-form mare Pleading. The daughter of Star Witness has only raced seven times and she is yet to miss the placings, with four wins and three minor-money showings. Having won all four of her starts last preparation, she resumed with a five-length defeat to Sebrenco at Newcastle in late March, before getting within 1.5 lengths of Impulse Control and Mosht Up last start on April 9. Davies has freshened her, sent her back to the trials and has now found a drier track in a suitable race. With online bookies offering double figures, this is a great each-way play.

Best Value

Race 6 – Silk #5 Pleading (4)

4yo Mare | T: Angela Davies | J: Reece Jones (a2)(60kg)

$10 with Bet365
