When Friday, December 10, 2021
First Race 6pm AEDT

The night racing season in New South Wales continues on Friday when Canterbury hosts an eight-race card from 6pm AEDT onwards, and HorseBetting’s tipping expert presents his best bets and quaddie selections for the evening. The rail is set in the true position and the track is rated a Good 4, although we could see a downgrade if the forecasted showers for Thursday and Friday come through as expected.

Canterbury Best Bet – Heza Gentleman

Mitchell & Desiree Kearney bring Nicconi back to the Canterbury 1550m following a dominant victory over track and distance on November 26. The five-year-old son of Nicconi was settled outside the leader on that night, but under a perfectly rated steer from Tyler Schiller, he was quick to put his rivals away on a Heavy 10. He gets back onto a firmer deck here, and with Schiller retaining the ride and claiming 3kg, we expect to see Heza Gentleman fighting out the finish. With just 54.5kg on his back, look for the gelding to settle in the first half a dozen before putting them away down the stretch.

Next Best at Canterbury – Ladylovestogamble

The Bjorn Baker-trained Ladylovestogamble comes to the Canterbury 1900m following a fifth-place finish at Rosehill on December 4. The five-year-old Casino Prince mare brings form behind The Guru, Shibli and Five Kingdom to this BM72 affair from earlier in her preparation and gets in with just 57.5kg on her back thanks to Jenny Duggan’s 2kg claim. From barrier three, she draws to get a suck run in transit, and with even luck Duggan can have her settled in the one-one. With a nice turn of foot, Ladylovestogamble has the class to get back into the winner’s stall.

Best Value at Canterbury – Twitch

Mark Newnham and Tom Sherry will be looking to go one better this time with Twitch, who copped a narrow defeat when first-up over the Gosford 1100m. She settled three wide with no cover throughout that day and did well to be beaten by only the barest of margins. She drops 2.5kg off that run, and despite drawing wide in barrier 14, we expect she will be hitting the line strongly once again. Having not finished worse than second in her three-start career, the four-year-old I Am Invincible mare is one with above-average ability. With even luck, she should be too hard to hold out.

Best ValueRace 7 – Twitch (#10) $12 with Sportsbet
