What Canterbury Night Races
Where Canterbury Park Racecourse – King Street, Canterbury NSW 2193
When Friday, November 12, 2021
First Race 6pm AEDT

Night racing returns to Canterbury Park this Friday, and HorseBetting’s New South Wales form analyst brings you his best bets and quaddie numbers for the eight-race card. The track is rated a Soft 7, the rail is out 3m for the entire course, and the first race is set to jump at 6pm AEDT.

Canterbury Best Bet – Sacred Command

James McDonald is back riding in Sydney on Friday night, and if he is still in his Melbourne Cup Week form, good luck to the rest of the hoops at Canterbury. In the fourth, he partners the Chris Waller-trained Sacred Command in a 1500m Benchmark 72 where an ounce of luck should see him successful. While the son of Epaulette has only won twice, one of those came on a Soft track at Te Rapa over 1600m, so he should relish the conditions on Friday night, especially if there is more rain and some dew on the surface come 7:30pm. Both of this gelding’s past two runs have been forgivable due to the fact that he has had no luck in running, so we are hoping that J-Mac in the saddle from the wide alley should be a recipe for success.

Next Best at Canterbury – King Kapa

We tipped King Kapa in his first-up run here on October 27 and everything that could go wrong did. We thought he would get a soft lead, but he bungled the start, was against the pattern of the day and ran into a pretty smart one in Zarastro. Nevertheless, he worked home well from the back to finish 1.5 lengths off the winner over 1100m. The three-year-old colt stays at the 1100m on Friday but will be second-up, so he should have some added fitness in his legs, and he has drawn ideally in barrier two to be able to settle up on the speed this time around. Nash Rawiller is a terrific front-running jockey, so his booking only adds confidence for us. King Kapa was a dominant winner on debut and followed up with a fourth-place finish in a Group 2 at Doomben, so that form is certainly good enough.

Canterbury Value Bet – Concordia

In the second race of the night, Les Bridge and Brock Ryan combine with an unraced three-year-old filly called Concordia. The daughter of I Am Invincible has had the benefit of four trials, three of which were this time in, and she has improved in each. Last time out at the trials, she raced between horses before really pinning her ears back in the straight to go up and win it over Edna, while that pair put a decent gap on the rest of the field. Drawn well in barrier five, Ryan will have his mount in a prominent position early and allow her to go through her gears in the straight. Concordia was originally lumped with the top weight of 59kg, but Ryan’s 2kg apprentice allowance sees her in with just 57kg, which means she will actually have the least amount of weight in this 1100m 3YO Fillies Maiden Handicap. The each-way odds are enticing.

Best ValueRace 2 – Concordia (#1) $10 with Sportsbet
