What Canterbury Races
Where Canterbury Park Racecourse – King Street, Canterbury NSW 2193
When Friday, February 7, 2025
First Race 6pm AEDT

Metro racing returns to the bright lights of Canterbury Park Racecourse on Friday night, with a competitive seven-part program set down for decision. The rail returns to the true position the entire circuit for the evening, and with no significant rainfall forecast to hinder proceedings, punters can expect a genuine Good 4 surface throughout the meeting. The opening event is scheduled to get underway at 6pm AEDT.

Best Bet at Canterbury: Bright Red

The Chris Waller-trained Bright Red is on the one-week backup after being narrowly defeated at this course and distance by stable companion Heed The Omens on January 31. The daughter of Pierro did it tough racing three-wide throughout the journey, still whacking away when the whips were cracking despite the torrid run in transit. James McDonald gets legged aboard from gate one this time around, and provided she doesn’t fall victim to the ‘Canterbury coffin’ from the inside draw, Bright Red should prove hard to hold out in the concluding stages.

Best Bet

Race 7 – Bright Red Silks#2 Bright Red (1)

4yo Mare | T: Chris Waller | J: James McDonald (61.5kg)

Next Best at Canterbury: Frontex

Frontex heads to the races for the first time after two eye-catching barrier trials at Rosehill. His latest piece of work on February 3 particularly caught the attention of pundits, cruising through the wire to suggest the son of Territories had plenty left to offer turning for home. Jay Ford takes the reins and maps to gain an ideal position midfield with cover throughout the journey, and with key contender Koios likely to head around at Scone on Thursday, this Canterbury maiden may prove to be perfect placement by team Hawkes.

Next Best

Race 3 – Frontex Silks#2 Frontex (6)

4yo Gelding | T: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes | J: Jay Ford (59kg)

Best Value at Canterbury: Amplify

Amplify appears primed to make a first-up statement as she gets set to debut for the Ciaron Maher barn. The daughter of Microphone did it nicely in a recent trial at Warwick Farm on January 1, never coming off the bridal to still get within a half-length of Too Many Kisses. Andrew Adkins has the option to ping the lids and lead from stall six, and provided he can cross to the front unimpeded, Amplify should give a bold sight at the each-way price with horse racing bookmakers.

Best Value

Race 2 – Amplify Silks#2 Amplify (6)

3yo Filly | T: Ciaron Maher | J: Andrew Adkins (59kg)
