Can Pondus win the 2021 Melbourne Cup?

Pondus has been a long range Melbourne Cup horse for the best part of 15-months. Having not made the final field in the 2020 Cup, he has made the 2021 final field and if he brings his best to Flemington, he is sure to run a nice race. With form behind the likes of Japan and Addeybb in his career, he clearly has the class, but the question remains whether he is still at that level or has dropped off a peg or two.

When will Pondus run in the Melbourne Cup?

The Melbourne Cup will be run on the first Tuesday in November despite all the COVID-19 chaos, but without the huge crowds that normally grace Flemington on Cup Day.

The one thing that hasn’t changed about the 2021 Melbourne Cup is the horses.

Once again The Cup has brought together an elite field of Melbourne Cup horses to contest the two mile race for $7.75 million.

Can Pondus win The Cup?

Pondus has been aimed towards the Melbourne Cup for the best part of 12-months and probably should have made the final field last year. Fast forward a year and he is racing in okay form, but may find one or two better than him on Tuesday. From barrier one, he is sure to gain a suck run in transit and Rachel King could have him settled on the leader’s heels throughout. We think a win is out of the equation, but a minor placing would not shock.
