Can Montefilia win the 2022 Melbourne Cup?

Montefilia is set to line up in her first Melbourne Cup in the 2022 edition of the race for trainer David Payne and jockey Jason Collett.

The five-year-old mare was without a doubt the eye-catching run in the Caulfield Cup when storming home from the rear of the field to be beaten just over a length.

Her run in the Caulfield Cup looked to be the perfect Melbourne Cup trial and considering she is already a four-time Group 1 winner and proven on rain-affected going, Montefilia has a strong chance in this.

When will Montefilia run in the Melbourne Cup?

The Melbourne Cup will be run on the first Tuesday in November at Flemington in front of a sold out crowd for the first time in 2019.

The one thing that hasn’t changed about the 2022 Melbourne Cup is the horses.

Once again The Cup has brought together an elite field of Melbourne Cup horses to contest the two mile race for $7.75 million.

Can Montefilia win The Cup?

Montefilia was arguably the eye-catching run out of the Caulfield Cup having settled alongside Duais in the running and putting 1.5-lengths on her when finishing fourth. She is without a doubt one of the best staying mares Australia has at the moment and from barrier 11, she should gain a similar run in transit to what she did in the Caulfield Cup. She is proven on rain affected ground and despite this being her first crack at 3200m, she has always shown she has the potential to stay at the two miles and will be one of the runners hitting the line hard from the rear of the field. Her turn of foot is elite for a stayer and if somehow, we are on an improving track, her chances will only get better in the Melbourne Cup.
