After four massive days at Flemington, racing heads to the southeastern outskirts of Melbourne for a standalone Cranbourne Cup meeting on Saturday, November 12.
All-in markets have Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr-trained gelding Visinari holding favouritism ($4.50), while the Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Uncle Bryn ($8) and Flash Aah ($15) have seen some support as well.
While speaking with Racing.com, Busuttin & Young stable representative Sam Griggs had promising thoughts for Sale Cup winner Uncle Bryn heading into Saturday’s feature.
“Uncle Bryn is excellent, obviously run in the Five Diamonds at Rosehill on Saturday so a quick turnaround, but it wasn’t too taxing a run on him,” he said.
“We thought he’d be off to the paddock after it, but he’s done more than enough to show he’s got one more run in him and he’ll be very hard to beat.
“It was a little bit of a non-event in the Five Diamonds, he got a little bit further back than we anticipated and just the way it was run made it pretty hard for anything to come from behind. But he found the line super and 100m past the post he was charging.
“He settled back in fine, he’s an absolute gentleman of a horse which makes life a lot easier but can’t fault him heading into Saturday.”
Stablemate Flash Aah finished second behind Uncle Bryn in the Sale Cup on October 23, and connections have not dismissed his chances of turning the tables this weekend.
“He was a readymade racehorse when got here, he’s put in a couple honest performances for us,” Griggs said.
“Obviously ran second to Uncle Bryn in the Sale Cup, Craig Newitt will take the ride again on him on Saturday but he’s a genuine horse and you can’t ask for much more than that and he’s a top three chance.
“He likes his runs spaced, he’s going to arrive into the race really well, I think he might be a little underestimated but he’s honest and genuine and I think at the hundred he’ll certainly be in it.”
It’s a mammoth nine-race program for Cranbourne Cup Day, and there is plenty of prizemoney on offer with the Apache Cat Classic and Rosemont Fillies & Mares Pendant also on the bill.
