After quieter than expected bidding yesterday, the NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales roared back into life today.
The second day of the Christchurch sale wrapped up just before 5pm with nearly $4m spent.
Stonewall Stud spent more than $1.3m at Karaka on Sunday, including the top lot, a Bettor’s Delight – Double Twist colt, which was knocked down for $260,000.
Today the stud forked out more big money. It went to $260,000 again, this time for Lot 295, a Bettor’s Delight – Fight For Glory colt.
It also paid $210,000 for Lot 287, a Bettor’s Delight – Elusive Chick Colt, $185,000 for a Captaintreacherous – Bettor Think Twice colt (Lot 254), and $150,000 for Akuta’s half-sister, a Always B Miki – Adore To Our Dreams filly (Lot 229).
The day started in promising fashion when Mark Jones spent $150,000 for a Bettor’s Delight – Tact Lizzie filly (Lot 206) while bloodstock agent Peter Lagan went to $180,000 for a Always B Miki – Beaudiene Babe filly (Lot 245), which will now head to Perth.
The four-day sale finishes in Christchurch tomorrow (Wednesday) with Lot 311 set to go at 1pm.
