Racing heads to the ‘Nursery of Champions’ on Tuesday for an eight-race program out of Bendigo. Despite plenty of rain throughout Victoria, Bendigo seems to have missed the downpour, with the track currently rated a Soft 6. The rail comes out 4m the entire circuit for the meeting commencing at 1:30pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Bendigo – Prancing Spirit
Our best bet of the day comes up in the penultimate race of the day when the Phillip Stokes-trained Prancing Spirit looks to build on his impressive start to his career. The three-year-old gelding was last seen finishing a length and tail off subsequent Sandown winner Holly Lolly in what has proved to be a strong BM58 at Pakenham on March 23. Prior to that effort he smashed a weak field at Stony Creek by seven-lengths and in doing so showed the signs of a nice horse going forward. The son of Sir Prancealot has a racing style which is hard to knock, he jumps cleanly from the gates, finds the rail and offers a kick in the home straight. He looks to be a perfect 1000m type of sprinter as he sets a genuine tempo out in front. With Sheridan Clarke’s 1.5kg claim, he’ll need to lug just 60.5kg and if he can put a gap on his rivals at the top of the straight, Prancing Spirit is sure to take some catching once again.

Next Best at Bendigo – Vagrant
We will be looking to sign off in style on Tuesday as the Mitchell Freedman-trained Vagrant looks to go one step better than his nice second upon resumption at Geelong on March 24. The three-year-old filly set herself to big a task from the rear of the field, but thundered home late making up many lengths to go down by 1.25-lengths. The Pariah filly had previously been competitive in Group 2’s chasing the likes of She’s Licketysplit and Zoe’s Promise. She is Stakes placed already and if she brings that type of form to Bendigo, she should prove a class above her rivals over 1300m. With Peshwa set to run this at a genuine clip, the race sets up perfectly for Declan Bates to have Vagrant building through her gears and ultimately proving too strong for her rivals late.

Best Value at Bendigo – Mr Trafficanti
The Ben & JD Hayes-trained Mr Trafficanti has put the writing on the wall in recent times and gets his chance to break his maiden at start seven. The four-year-old gelding had finished second at his first two starts this campaign before finishing fourth in a strong maiden at Pakenham on March 16. He draws to gain every favour in running from barrier six under Jake Duffy and if he can land the one-one or at worst three back in the moving line with cover, he should prove too good for this lot. He is proven on Heavy ground so the rain-affected track will be no issue and with a well-timed run, Mr Trafficanti can salute at a nice price with online bookmakers.
