A bumper nine-race program is set down for decision at Bendigo Jockey Club on Thursday afternoon. The track has come up a Heavy 9, while the rail returns to the true position having been out 8m when we last raced at Bendigo on June 18. Racing from the ‘Nursery of Champions’ is set to commence at 12:25pm AEST.
Best Bet at Bendigo – Von Hauke
Cliff Brown’s Von Hauke brought up a deserved maiden success at Mornington on June 12 and looks poised to go on with the job in BM64 company. The three-year-old returned a different horse following a three-month spell and, with a strong turn of foot, put his rivals away while being eased down a long way from home. He will get back in the pack upon settling, but by this time in the day, it should pay to be swinging the turn out wide and making a run down the middle or outside half of the track. If Von Hauke is anywhere near his best, he will be the one to beat.

Next Best at Bendigo – Miss Balvenie
Miss Balvenie has been contesting tougher races than this at Sandown and gets her chance to break through for an overdue win on Thursday. The four-year-old mare has chased home Viviane at her last two starts in BM78 and BM70 company, with that horse subsequently winning at Caulfield on June 24. She finished two lengths off that mare when they last clashed on June 14 and was hitting the line better than most of the field. She is ready to strike third-up from a spell and should be charging home late under Blake Shinn.

Best Value at Bendigo – Nitrogen
Despite getting stuck in traffic at Mornington last time out, Nitrogen did enough to run fourth behind Von Hauke – our top tip on Thursday. The Lonhro gelding made up good ground once finding clear air in the home straight and deserved to finish much closer than the three-length margin suggests. Brad Rawiller will have this bloke settled in the second half of the field, and if the pair get a genuinely run 1300m, Nitrogen will be the one saved for the last crack at the leaders.
