The Bendigo Jockey Club has been in operation since 1854 and is one of Victoria’s longest functioning racecourses. Highly regarded as a staple of country racing, Bendigo Racecourse holds upwards of 25-race meetings per year and is widely considered one of the most picturesque tracks amongst the state.
While it’s known for racing throughout the season, Bendigo race track is also the home of training operations – including the likes of Shane Fliedner, Kym Hann and Adam O’Neil – just to name a few. Utilising its facilities for trackwork and gallops regularly, with up to 30 more industry personnel using Bendigo Racecourse during its six-day per week availability.
Bendigo is the home of a crucial lead up race for the Melbourne Cup, with the Bendigo Cup (2400m) being considered one of the final options for entry into the Group 1 feature for the first Tuesday in November.

Bendigo racecourse address & how to get there
Bendigo Racecourse is located at Heinz St, White Hills, VIC 3550, Australia and is approximately 152km north of the Melbourne CBD.
If you’re driving yourself to the horse racing course via car from the Melbourne CBD, you’ll be looking to travel north on the M79. Making your way past Kyneton (Another popularly country racecourse) taking you roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes to arrive.
If you’d rather use public transport to make your way to Bendigo, Southern Cross Station is the main travel hub for Victorians, with regularly scheduled busses and trains taking racegoers to Bendigo Station. From there you simply take the Route 5 bus towards Huntly and depart at the Botanic Gardens. Then it’s a 15-minute scenic walk to Bendigo Racecourse. In saying this, be sure to check your travel plans prior to race-day to ensure a safe and timely departure.
Obviously if you’re a local it’s much easier to make your way to Bendigo Jockey Club, whether you drive, taxi or uber, the choices are numerous and mostly within walking distance.
Bendigo race track dimensions & specifications
Since being renovated in 1998, the Bendigo Racecourse has a circumference of 1995m and a home straight 400m in length.
The wider track allows for only two chute starting positions across the course. Firstly, with sprinting trips from 900m-1100m, and then another for the milers as the 1600m start point comes from its own chute.

Every year Bendigo is utilised regularly; however, it’s racing tends to heat up on the backend of the year, with the Group 3 Bendigo Cup (2400m) seeing some classy stayers seeking qualification for the Group 1 Melbourne Cup. You only need to look at recent results to indicate a nice form race for punters to follow, as the 2022 edition was taken out by High Emocean, who went on to run third in the year’s Melbourne Cup.
Bendigo also has its own standalone Saturday meeting in April for Golden Mile Day seeing many black-type gallopers making their way to the country circuit, with trainers and owners seeking some returns with quality prizemoney on offer.
