A nine-race card is scheduled for Bendigo Cup Day on Wednesday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian horse racing analyst presents his best bets and free quaddie numbers for the day. The track is rated a Good 4, the rail returns to the true position, and racing is set to start at 12:30pm AEDT.
Bendigo Cup Top Tip – Wentwood
Having gone down by 0.2 lengths in the Coongy Cup to Queensland Oaks winner Duais, we expect the Maddy Raymond-trained Wentwood will go one better and claim the Group 3 Bendigo Cup. Known as a country cup champion, the now seven-year-old son of Pour Moi is as consistent a runner as they come and is sure to appreciate the firmer ground at Bendigo. Having settled in the second half of the field in the Coongy on the back of a slow tempo, the run was full of merit to go stride-for-stride with a proven Group 1 performer. With two wins and two minor placings to his name when second-up, he should be raring to go here. Look for him to be hitting the line with great intent.
Bendigo Best Bet – The Billionaire
We were with the Anthony & Sam Freedman-trained The Billionaire for his dominant 2.3-length victory at Morphettville on October 9, and he looks a clear best bet here on Wednesday. Having jumped beautifully, Jason Holder used the son of Written Tycoon’s early speed to his advantage to lead clearly, and with a nice kick when entering the home straight, The Billionaire simply never looked like getting run down. From barrier six on Wednesday, we expect Jye McNeil to adopt similar tactics in the small field of six and take luck out of the equation. With market rivals South Parade and Brenlyn’s Trooper coming to this first-up from a spell, The Billionaire will have race fitness on his side and should be too hard to run down.
Next Best Bet at Bendigo – Maybe The Best
We’ll be hoping we can round out Bendigo Cup Day with another one of Anthony & Sam Freedman’s runners, with Maybe The Best set to go around in the final race of the day. Having finished third in consecutive runs, she is more than overdue a win. The I Am Invincible mare goes around with just 55kg on her back in what looks to be a shallow BM70, and from barrier 14, we expect Jye McNeil to go forward and look to settle outside of the leader. As long as she does not get trapped wide, we expect Maybe The Best to send punters home a winner.
Best Value at Bendigo – Arrorance
In the opening leg of the quaddie, we expect the Mark Webb-trained Arrorance to build on her first-up second at Moe on October 15 and go on with the job here. In that run, the Puissance De Lune mare managed to hit the front inside the final 100m before finding one better on the line. Arrorance has not missed the top three in any of her last seven starts, so she is as consistent as they come. From barrier 13, she will need a touch of luck early, but if she is afforded that, we expect Brian Park to have her presented at just the right time.
