Racing returns to the Benalla Racing Club on Thursday as they host a very competitive nine-race card. The track is currently rated a Heavy 10 as most of Victoria’s race tracks are still recovering from the massive deluge of rain over the last week, however, with some good weather on the forecast we could hopefully find our way to a Soft track come race day. The rail will be in the true position for the entire circuit when racing gets started at 1:00pm AEDT.
Best Bet: Machinegun Krelley
In the fourth race of the day, Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr will bring their four-year-old gelding, Machinegun Krelley, to Benalla where he will be looking to break his maiden at start number seven. This son of Swear was very good at his last two starts finishing a close third, by half a length, at Pakenham on September 19 and running a good third as he worked home nicely after being held up at a crucial stage at his most recent start at Mornington on October 6. This guy will step up in distance to 1600m for the first time and it could be the recipe for success as this gelding has been running through the line at both of his starts over 1400m and his last start over 1500m. Daniel Moor has ridden him at his last two starts, so if he gets any luck in running from barrier one on Thursday, he will be very hard to beat.

Next Best: Outlaw Ned
In the first leg of the quaddie, many of these will be meeting again for the second time in just over a month after they met back on September 23. We will be siding with the second-placegetter in that first meeting, Outlaw Ned, from the Michael Cornish & Donna Gaskin yard as he will get a 4.5kg weight swing in his favour over his rival that beat him last time, Couldbefamous. This five-year-old gelding has seven starts on rain affected ground for two wins, which are his only two wins on his career record to date, and considering we will be seeing a Heavy or Soft rated track there should be no problems with the track. Neil Farley will take the ride once again after riding this son of Wanted at his last four starts and from barrier three he should lob in the one-one and be very hard to beat in the concluding stages.
Next Best Bet
Race 6 – #5 Outlaw Ned (3)
5yo Gelding | T: Michael Cornish & Donna Gaskin | J: Neil Farley (58.5kg)

Best Value: Uptick
In the fifth race of the day over 2040m, the John O’shea-trained Uptick will be looking to break her maiden at start number four after running two of her first three career starts in New South Wales. This lightly raced three-year-old filly finished very strong as she ran through the line over 1600m at Pakenham on October 14, showing that the rise up to 2040m on Thursday will be a positive for her. This filly will have to go back from her barrier nine and hopefully Daniel Stackhouse will have her building her revs around the outside as the field reaches the turn, giving her every chance to run home strong down the outside.
Best Value
Race 5 – #12 Uptick (9)
